That's an odd pattern for cam wear, or at least not one I've ever seen before. Can you feel texture there or is it strictly visual?

That looks.....intentional.

I assume you aren’t the original owner, or if you are, take it to someone else for work?

Someone did that with a bench grinder or a dynabrade if I had to guess.

The “why” eludes me.

Maybe someone was deliberately trying to mark the camshaft.
Is only one shaft marked?
Maybe check them all for markings.
Could be a mechanic wanting to make sure no one interfered with his work.

Are you talking about the grindmarks between the lobes?

Made in factory, this to remove castingflaws.

Is it just in that one spot, or is it that spot on all the non-contacting surfaces of the camshaft? Looks like it might just be remnants of the gates/parting line of the casting that was ground down.

looks like your cams need to be replaced as do your lifters probably need to be. there is lots of wear on the cam lobes. if you end up replacing them cams i may want to snag your damaged cams it you plan to toss them or let them go for a small amount.

the photo though isn't super clear. any chance you have a higher quality photo versus a zoomed in one?

What wear are all these experts talking about? Your cam lobes look very good. I had my heads pulled and the cams looked like yours. I don’t see any of those grind marks like yours in my pictures. HG motorsports told me that my cams looked brand new. I think yours look fine.

I suspect hachiroku is looking right at the tips of the cam lobes (not the grinding marks the OP asked about), but it's hard to tell from the photo if they're worn or if that is just the way the light is reflecting off the lobes. It could indeed be wear.
