Looks great Panzerbiscuit, impressive build!! When are you getting it re-tuned and dyno'd again?

headers, high flows, factory exhaust resonator and factory mufflers for the C63 is perfect for my ears. loud but not too loud. most C63 owners love the setup you run though...honestly even further with the cat fully de-catted. noise...so much noise.

i have to adhere to a strict 1500km break in period on the cam adjusters and lifters. I have currently driven ~160km in the last 5ish weeks that ive had the car back. Mostly due to work commitments and the weather. Perth has had some serious rain in the past month. Im not sure how the M156 will run under water.

But as soon as my parts are broken in, I'll be doing some comprehensive data logging and getting @hachiroku to send me a revised tune. Really looking forward to this.

It's pretty intoxicating if im honest.
I can see how it would be quite annoying sometimes. The few times ive taken it to the shopping centre and parked underground. I was super embarrassed when i started it up. It is bananas.

Can't wait till its tuned and i can really get on it and open up the taps a little

How was the fitment on the headers with them being RHD? I am also looking to eventually order the same headers but no much information on the RHD version. Also what are you doing for cats? From what I have seen you have to get custom cats mounted slightly further back with a new section mating upto the resonator.

Imo the best exhaust set up I have heard is MBH headers with cats, secondary cat delete, stock resonater with stock mufflers.

Hey mate,
Fitment wasn't an issue, my installer had no issues whatsoever. Took about 8 hours to do. This time may be shortened if you/your mechanic are familiar with fitting headers to the c63.

For cats, i am running a set of magnaflow 100cel cats.
i dont have my stock resonator at the moment. UnfortuUnfortuI took mine out and stashed it in the shed. Then my old man sold it for $20....

The car is LOUD on cold starts and when its revved. At idle it sounds a bit meatier but not obnoxiously so. I may try and source an oem resonator and chuck it in if i get sick of this/want to change the sound a bit.

Update.
After chatting with Jan from 63Motorsports he wasn't happy with the sound my engine was making. He correctly diagnosed the issue as an incorrectly installed cam adjuster assembly, whereby the lash gears weren't aligned correctly.
My mechanic wasn't familiar with the M156 platform so he incorrectly assumed the two gears had to be aligned to be installed correctly.

Thankfully he rectified the issue and re-installed them to spec. With no damage to my cams or engine. Which is a massive relief. Engine purrs like a kitten now, apart from sounding like a V8 supercar on cold starts!
I cannot thank Jan enough for diagnosing the issue via a video sent on instagram messenger! He is a guru when it comes to the M156 platform and goes above and beyond for his customers. I cannot recommend him, or his products enough. If anyone is considering to keep an M156 powered vehicle for the long term(like I am), needs to seriously consider having a chat to Jan. He is doing his upmost to make the M156 as stout as possible so we can enjoy if for as long as possible.

I managed to get a quick drive in after the cam adjusters where installed properly. All I can say is WOW. In S and M mode, the car sounds fantastic and drives like an animal. Rev's so much freer with the lightened components. Can't wait for Barry from eightysix tuned to work his magic and give me a custom tune for the headers. If his base tune is anything to go buy, it is sure to be amazing.

Stay tuned for some more aesthetic mods in the form of some 507 side stripes, some more carbon goodies, and maybe some lightened/forged rims. I would like to avoid going for the "murdered out" look as every man and their dog has a chrome deleted C63 with black accents.
I desperately need an LSD. I am thinking of getting a clutched LSD from OS Giken. Has anyone run something similar?

This is exactly why I work on my own cars, when I can.

It’s nearly impossible to find a good mechanic who’s familiar with the platform nowadays. They’re all somehow BMW experts and claim to know the M156, only to prove it otherwise.

I don't have the skills, time, tools or ***** to work on my own cars. At least with things like this This guys is super knowledgeable about most platforms and specialises in building 1000hp+ jdm cars. The installation of the cam adjusters isn't super intuitive, in the sense that the lash gears have to be misaligned/off set to be installed properly. As far as im concerned, no harm no foul. He sorted the issue without incident.

Great update, glad your engine is all sorted now! Can I ask where do you plan on getting the 507 stripes from? OEM or aftermarket? I'm looking for a set myself but getting aftermarket replicas that look close to OEM seems difficult.

Theres a window tint/wrap shop here in perth who can make them up for me. They've done them before and they look mint. $450 AUD including fitting. Can't argue with that!

Bit of a weird one, but I have ordered a set of lower airboxes from the Hammer supercharger kit from VCM performance in Melbourne. I'm hoping the larger airbox volume will lead to an increase in power. I have no idea if that's how engine's/fluid dynamics work, but my caveman brain says more bigger is more better. I have been following the airbox spacer thread with great interest, if only for the lols.

I'll get a before and after dyno done as well as do some data logging with hptuners so people can see if there is any real difference. Who knows. All I can say is, for the price that Sam from VCM performance is doing on them, I don't care if they do nothing other than look cool and take up more engine space. They are cheaper than the intake spacers by the way, and I think he has a few more sets laying around if anyone else is interested.

Hopefully my experiment pays off

You have to call/email them directly for them.
I think they are left over stock from the hammer supercharger system and are therefore no longer being produced.

Airboxes arrived!
Stock lids will fit onto these nicely.
wonder how much larger these are than the stock ones

Nice!

It seems like they do exactly what the spacers are doing, but way more nicely =)

Hopefully!
Will be interesting to see if data logging will be able to determine if they "flow" better than the stock ones, and if they will make any appreciable differences in power.

is there any consensus/evidence on whether or not the plastic airboxes "trap" heat or transfer heat into the air prior to it being ingested by the engine? Would it he worthwhile wrapping these in some gold reflective tape to try and lower the IAT's? Or will it be so negligible it won't matter?

In my view, the airspeed through the plastic intake system will be that fast, it won't have a chance to absorb any heat at any appreciable rev's. If anything, the intake manifold is more likely to impact more on the IAT's than the plastic components.

I ran a phenolic spacer on my intake manifold on my reasonably modified Nissan SR20 (circa 400rwhp restricted to 8,000 rpm) and didn't note any difference to my IAT's.

Edit:

Just drove home from work. My Mercedes app shows my intake temps log never exceeded 27 degrees C with ambient at 20 - 22 degrees C during my journey home. Left it running in my garage whilst I grabbed the bins in from the verge - intake temps progressively climbed to 42 degrees C with ambient in my garage rising to 29 degrees C.

In my c55 amg i had before i insulated the manifold down in the valley and routed and 2" airhose down to the valley to blow away the heated air when driving.
It worked, and really good also.
I remember i lowered the temp roughly around 10degrees(celsius)

Bit of an update on the airbox lowers from the hammer kit.
they have different mounting points to the stock boxes and will require significant modifications to get to fit. I'll need to have a think about how to do it in the cleanest/neatest way. The stock boxes also have a shroud that hugs up against the intake manifold that the aftermarket boxes don't have.

Putting the airbox project on the backburner, i haven't thought of a way to get them fitted, and unfortunately i dont have much time to spend on that project.

In the meantime, i decided to paint the airbox lids. I personally think they look great, but they may not be to everyones tastes.
