Front wheel bearings same as rear?

So, looking at the front wheel bearings. And to me, they look just like the rear. But with an axle stub in it instead of the whole CV.

Can I save $400 by simply buying rear bearings and pressing in a flange and bolting in a stub?

The front are totally different from the rear. They’re a one-piece permanently sealed unit, vs the traditional type in rear. The way they bolt up isn’t comparable to swap.

Actually found my answer.

I Found a vendor that sells the bearing modules (assy) for front and rear. Looking at the mfr images they are very similar. But the front have a slightly different casting on the rotor side of the bearing module.

So the moral of the story... It doesn't matter if the rears *may* fit. The correct front modules are available and reasonably priced.

Make sure you’re getting the C63 AMG version, not regular C-class. Cause that ain’t close to what the fronts actually look like.

Yeah the front and rear look nothing alike. The front are pressed into the hub assembly and then fit onto the spindle and held in place by a large locking nut that you torque and let off to give proper pre load. The bearing look something like this

Those parts are for front RWD non AMG vehicles.

The AMG cars don't have a spindle (don't know why ) built into the knuckle or even a dust/hub cap.
They have an axle stub with splines. More like a FWD unitized hub/bearing assembly.

Serious? I haven’t done a w204 front but the 203 cars all had that setup as well as some of the other rear drive amgs of the same vintage as the 204. I should get under it and have a look if it is just a bolt on bearing assembly that would be much easier to replace

The E63 may be spindle type. Haven't looked.

I just stumbled on this thread. I'll leave it for anyone searching in the future.

This is a pic of the front from when I replaced mine last year. It’s pressed together, considered one-piece and not serviceable.

Part number is 2043300525 and FCP Euro was the best price. You’ll also need 8 carrier bolts part number 0019904203.

Didn’t think of this until now, but that’s all for a coupe. Sedan might be different.

That’s exactly right. Super easy to replace, however the bolts are blocked by both the lower control arm and thrust arm ball joints. So you have to pop them if you want to have any hope of getting a proper torque wrench on the carrier to spindle bolts.

Yeah just had a look for something to do and it is as you say. Much better design IMO
Especially from a replacement point of view

That is assembled exactly like the rear. In the link I posted, FCPEuro shows it disassembled.
You posted in that thread coincidentally.
