No Start - Help!

No Start - Help!
Long story short just replaced valve cover gaskets.
Fired the car up tonight to check for leaks.
- had the car running with the MAF connected but the air box was not installed in place (was looking for oil leaks)
- car was idling for 10min when it suddenly died
- after it died I got the smell of “electrical” coming from cylinder 8. I noticed the plug wasn’t completely clipped onto the coil pack. Upon smelling the coil pack/plug the “electrical” smell was strong
- Car will not start, does not try to crank. I can hear the fuel pump prime.
- All gauges activate
- I’ve tried jump starting, same outcome
- I’ve checked all fuses
- No codes
Any other suggestions before I have it towed?

Well after 5hrs of dicking around I figured it out..
Fuse 24 (15 amp) “engine electronics” kept popping, without even trying to start the car. After adjusting plugs, making sure there was no exposed wires and going through 10x 15 amp fuses I only had a 25amp left. I put that in, within 10sec the coil in question hours ago literally exploded and started smoking..
I quickly unplugged it, and pulled it from the engine. I stole a 15a fuse from my daily and quickly started the car without a coil on cylinder 8.. she fired right up. Looks like I need a new coil..
God I hate cars.

Good you found the source of the problem and certainly better than having a fire in the engine compartment.
Just wondering if perhaps a renewal of the remaining coils may be a good preventive measure?

if your ignition coils are original and one has failed, i highly recommend replacing them all as a set. FCP has a set of Delphi ones for a great price. Delphi is the supplier for our OEM coils so they are exactly the same.

I’ve got a perfectly good set out of my 2012 that I’d sell you for cheap if you feel like saving a few bucks
