ESS info for all who want

Just a heads up to all looking into the Ess full kit. As great as the kit is and the parts and tuning are good if you want to add more like say headers maybe go with weistec instead. Ess doesn’t and won’t support tuning for header applications which is a let down for sure I wish I knew this prior to purchasing the Ess kit

Fair enough, always better to just get a custom tune the tunes they give you are usually pretty tame and safe and don’t take into account other custom mods you could have on your car. How do you like the ess otherwise? What kind of power is it putting down?

i was hoping they did as well. i was basically told if i dont have enough money for a new engine or transmission to stay away from the 72mm pulley and that they dont offer header tuning as it nets zero power and its not worth it to them to do it. pretty sad thats the response i got from ESS. i think in the near future here itll he a tune with HP from a certain someone on this forum that can dial it in for me

I'm really sorry to hear about that.

I begin to wonder if I was misled as well.

Haichiroku is probably the man I will look to in the future when I decide to go custom tune (if he'll be still around that is) for now, I'm still waiting on some work to be completed and enjoy it for a few more years before I decide to go that route.

yep that’s the way to go. No power from headers ? That’s insane talk and yeah the forum member you are taking about does good work apparently and would be the route I would go as well

I have a C5 Corvette with a roots blower similar to ESS, tuned by Lingenfelter.

Car originally had LTH when I had the blower installed. We ended up putting the stock manifolds on because the car made overall more power and torque with the manifolds. Significantly more torque.

This isn't apples to apples (pushrod v OHC, yada yada), but I was pretty surprised. Saw it with my own eyes on the dyno. I'm sure ESS found something similar during development.

ESS tuning did a tune for me running on IPE long tube headers 2 years ago when I had the supercharger kit fitted. After warranty ran out, I tried 72mm 9psi pulley, and there was no adaptations from the tune and there was negligible increase in power/torque but loads more heat soak. So I swapped back to 75mm 8psi pulley. Car been running great since.

I have to agree with you, I kept having a fuel leak where the injector goes in the rail. They were quite condescending and insisted It had never happened and I was installing them wrong. Finally they sent different o rings and that solved the issue. I have the 8psi pulley and ARH long tube headers. AFRs have been ok and no issues or CELs. I am installing direct port water meth and then going for a custom tune. I will say its a nice kit and couldn't see spending another 3k on the Weistec

After a lot of confusing and controversy emails of being told if you do the 72mm pulley and headers you better have money for a new engine and transmission or headers aren’t worth it don’t do it I would strongly recommend you leave the car as is or hp tuning is an amateur disaster or telling me how illegal it is for headers and huge fines…..I just want to install headers man I wanna hear the beast roar can you help me? I’m looking for help here. To the last email yes you can install headers as is it will work just fine except for possibly some minor drivability issues that the average joe won’t notice. lol like what! So all in all headers will be going on as the car is now but wow that’s all wow

I was told anything more then the 6psi pulley would be too much for the trans. I did the TCU tune and I had the trans rebuilt by Southern Hot Rod. Super nice people to deal with. I had the headers on my car before I installed the supercharger so I have no before and after comparison but I have run the 6psi pulley and then put the 8 psi pulley on. I have had 0 issues. Car runs perfect, pulls crazy hard and the headers definitely make the car sound better. If it were me I'd put them on.
