Lifter noise or adjuster noise??
Hey looking for some input of this noise…
seems tobe slightly different than other noises I’ve heard from other m156
2012 p31 car 60k miles..video is with car fully warmed up
I do currently get slight cam adjuster rattle on start ups and plan to replace locking plates soon..
im now starting to think I will be doing lifters aswell while the covers are off
Thanks in advance!!

Hmm... mine doesn't make that much noise. Probably lifters. I took the head covers off to inspect the cam lobes. Mine are pretty good. I'd guess maybe you have a lobe or two that is worn and the lifter it's worn more than the rest. Sounds like drivers bank which usually has a little more wear. I inspected my adjusters. Passenger side intake is "loose" with a wrench test. I'm going to swap the plates as you mentioned and will do the lifers while I'm in there. I got the "updated" lifters that have the coating on top.

Yes right at the oil filler cap. Sounds like lifters. You can remove your valve cover and inspect the lobes and lifters. You might want to replace the cover gasket and 4 gaskets for the spark plugs while you're in there. The drivers side is the harder one to work on since there is 0 room on the side to get your hands in there. The wiring harness is also a *****. A trick I used:
Your camshaft will be a certain position when the engine is stopped. You'll be able to see some lobes/lifters others will be "down." I disconnected the coils on the other bank so the car would crank but not start (no spark). That allowed me to crack it a little to see ALL the lobes and lifters. You likely have 1 or more cam lobes with more wear than the rest which is causing the lifter chatter. You won't know for sure until you get eyes on there. You can also use that trick to turn the camshafts to a position where you can get a 28mm wrench on them to check for wobble (worn adjusters)
I took me about 4 hours to do all of that on the drivers bank. 3 on the passenger. I'm pretty much a novice though.
