Manual Oil Evacuator via Dipstick?

Has anyone ever used a Manual Oil Evacuator that drains out oil via the dipstick? Just curious how good of a job it does and if it's as effective as draining from the drain plug.

Also, does it drain the oil that is in the oil cooler as well? If it does, I would love to get it as that way I would no longer need to lift the car up and have to take off all the plastic guards.

THANKS!!

Lots of posts in here about doing this procedure to remove the oil from the sump. Mostly for doing oil changes between dealer visits when the cars were newer. Most of the oil should be removed and you can keep track of how much you get out of the engine (should be about 8 quarts/liters). It will not remove any oil from the oil coolers or cooler lines unless they drain back into the sump which I doubt will happen. Most results seemed very positive.

Thanks for the reply!
Do you personally drain the oil from the oil cooler? It sounds like half of the people do and half don't..

You can drain pretty much everything - close to 10L - from the coolers too if you use the MityVac correctly with the included Mercedes adapter which creates an actual suction effect versus just using a skinny tube stuffed down the dipstick. I’ve posted on this forum but can’t find it today. Did the same thing on my old GLK, see this post: https://mbworld.org/forums/glk-class...ml#post7915604

This is the superior method and the one used by AMG techs. You don’t have to fuss with plugs, change crush washers, risk crossthreading a plug, torque, etc. You can get all the oil out. Even if there’s a little bit of old oil left, it makes absolutely no difference as you’re diluting that remaining whatever 1/4 quart of old oil with 40 times that amount in fresh oil. It’s a rounding error, about what you’d expect to remain in the engine anyway, it just doesn’t matter at all.

Always do mine via suction method via dipstick, always gets around 7litres out no problem, so much quicker and less mess, might not get as much as the normal method, but I do mine more regularly now with the suction method because I know it's quicker and easier!

What else do I need to buy in addition to the MityVac in order to do suction? Do you have a link to the adaptor?

Thank you, this has been very helpful! Can't wait to do my first oil change that won't require taking off all the splash guards and lifting the car!!

When you guys use the MityVac, do you do it with the engine hot?

Mityvac can handle 80°C. I usually suck the oil out when it's mid 70's.

I was thinking about switching to oil extraction while wrapping up a pulleys & belt service earlier today. The R230 has the oil cooler bolt on top and I discovered that it can be accessed from the top by just removing the brace that holds the radiator in place.

Beats getting my QuickJack set up and having to remove a bunch of paneling underneath the car.

I have an EWK extractor already and can rig up something to seal the connection to the dipstick tube. Maybe use something like this and drill a hole through:
Amazon Amazon

How far down did the Mityvac adapter have to go into the dipstick?

I have been doing my oil drains from the drain plug. But this got me thinking so I ordered a MityVac.

That's barely operating temp. I like to drain with the oil HOT 230-240° so the cooler thermostat is wide open.

Here’s my post from this forum in 2020 for anyone still confused about how to do this. The adapter comes with the MityVac. You only have to push it about 1” into the dipstick to get an air-tight seal. And I also like to drain the oil while pretty hot.
