Alcantara Dash - Facelift

Pretty much finished the outside, wide body been on 3yrs. Pretty much finished the engine, supercharger been on the same

Naturally attention has turned to the inside beyond the usual carbon mods we do. Had this Alcantara 9002 piece made and trimmed for perfect fit around the vents. Still have the centre console to do, but pretty happy to lose a slab of cheap material to be honest.

Thanks. I had a UK company manufacture and install the piece. It was made on a rig of a 204 dash and translated perfectly into my RHD car. I am not sure they supply to LHD or the supply only, but I can ask if that’s something you’d like to explore.

Ask them if a LHD group buy is possible? It looks so good.

This is what they’ve responded:

Hi there

Yes we can do LHD.

For supply only materials are normally £549 including postage.

With a group buy I can bring that price down but dependant on the numbers!

Let me know what numbers you think you would have and I can advise you a price

I think I'd be game to doing this.
@Cozy could we see a zoomed out picture of you interior please? (maybe something taken from the back seat?)
How does the mix between the Alacantara and the hard plastics of the rest look to you?
(specifically Lower guage cluster & glove box areas)

If you were to do this again, would you add/remove any parts of this?

Would they be willing to contrast-stitch?

Great mod, though, thanks for sharing!

Interesting. So is this company going to make a cover that will what, slide over the dash and glue into place? Even with all the hoods and vents etc? I’ve got to think that the dash still has to come all the way out in order to tuck it all away and prepare the dash correctly for permanent adhesion. Or else you’re going to get bubbles and wrinkles and other nasty artifacts in the future. I like the idea although I already have a big roll of genuine alcantara so I’ll just stick to my plan whenever I get around to taking my dash out. Watching with interest…

Sure but it’ll be a week or so while I am away. Stitching as far as I know is your choice, I just like black.

You take out all of the trims, clocks etc and fix behind all the trims, so it’s not just a slap on dash pad. Adhesion is your choice, but something like 3M dash adhesive is probably where you’ll end up. This company just takes all the work out of cutting holes, to shape and stitching, I haven’t got patience for all that so great they have a factory rig of the dash.

@BHimself Here are a couple of shots. It’s an ongoing project, I’ll wrap to my taste but the possibilities are endless. I considered running a double stitch on the centre console tops but, I have a plan here for a one-off Carbon inlay to TBC. Get a good quality material, genuine Alcantara and not a thick hide (it’s synthetic anyway so pretty slim). The material is super easy to work with, don’t stretch it but it’ll lay into any recess, and you can hide the cuts and any overlaps behind the panels if necessary, then trim them up. A glove box is definitely doable, as are the radio console sides and lower dash.

For me, I realise there are a lot of plastics in this car, so it’s about picking the battles of which to wrap. Mainly the cheap hard plastics let it down, but the spongier ones are liveable. I think next, after the centre arm rest leathers, will be door card tops as that’s another area that catches reflection from outside elements I find, and let’s be real, that’s the point of flocking or covering a dash in “suede” anyway, so functional too. Finally the rear will get some attention around the centre cup holders.

You're doing a great job with the interior upgrades!
Thank you for the extra pics!!

I don't have instagram, and their website is just a "coming soon" page. Do you know if they can do all this in a leather too? @Why Vegas could you please ask next time, or get an email for this old timer?

I hadn't thought about the sides around gear shift/seats either....excitedly watching the project unfold as well!!

I must admit, this looks like a good next upgrade to obsess over while I wait for the coilvers to come in...

I noticed the floor mats too, those aren't Luxos or Toping mats are they?

Leather was my first thought, but it’s really only possible with the dash out and you’d only have the choice of a real supple Nappa, and have to hope it matched your seats. The problem with it is, is that it needs a lot more work to lay into the shape of things so I doubt it’d lay down right without full access.

I’ve got loads of Alcantara so as and when I get free time, I wrap another piece but just trying to work out the balance, as in what’s missing and then not overstepping to the point it looks too much.

The mats are just something I knocked up myself on the machine. As you can see they aren’t the high sided crap that wraps round everything, they’re just a base that lays over the original floor. If I did it again I wouldn’t stitch them in diamonds, I just took inspiration from photos I’d seen, I’d horizontal stitch. But, their purpose is literally to stop the floor getting dusty from around here, as it was super annoying having to beat the mats out just walking to the car from the house at times. These are wipe clean and throw-away if I want, with a perfect set of AMG mats underneath
for show.

I was watching a YT recently of someone repairing an Aston Martin dash. In it, when they tried to send it out for repairs, they claimed it wasn't something easy since the airbag has a specifically perforated section no one wanted to touch/repair. The video showed some plastic bracing underneath where it's been specifically made to break in a very particular area for the airbag to still do its job.

It got me thinking about this, @Cozy how much do you think this impacts the passenger side airbag?
Does this have any scoring/cutouts for that on the underside?
I'd assume otherwise it'd remain in 1 piece and push out that interior wood/carbon-fiber trim piece if all the brown hits the fan wouldn't it? (because that's where the single-piece material ends, with just the clips of the trim, right?)

I get how it's best not to bounce the car off anything, but my last 2011 C63 was killed by a red-light runner crashing into a van(left lane), which crashed into me (middle lane) and taking all of us into a 3rd car (right lane). It was unpleasant, but i guess I luckily had that left lane van to absorb the initial pointed blow, otherwise more focused force into my feet/legs....I saw none of it coming as that same big van along my left blocked the whole show.

@Why Vegas what's your thoughts on all this? they give any more response on LHD & leather?

Thank you!!

Ok, you were right, I was wrong, the glove box looks better for being done. It wasn’t easy. The contours around the top sides were tricky and so was figure out the best way to cut out the latch hole.

I also did some other bits, like the small piece of dash next to the indicator (turn signal) stalk and the arm rest leathers.

Maybe I will do door tops next, just to finish the cockpit feel, then I’m done.

@Why Vegas any luck getting an old fashioned form of contact from these guys?

@Cozy any new update on the doors/Multimedia-sides, or anything else you care to share about this over the months?

I'm still casually interested in such a project, and along the way I did a little research on other options. Apparently there was an OEM leather dash option, it just wasn't crash tested for the USA market at least.
There was even a decent thread about it here a decade+ ago, found here.
With a YT video showcasing it for a quick moment @ the 2:10 mark. (all referenced in the above thread.

It looks like it's got a "cutout" for the airbags and looks pretty decent, but I haven't gotten any further into sourcing parts/researching.
Anyone ever seen a w204 with this option that's still around? (i.e. how has the leather aged over the years?)

Thank you!!

Sorry, I’ve departed the forum a little since selling the car (now in an R8). I didn’t attempt the multimedia sides but it’s very achievable. My only concern is that it would probably look best with some double stitching and would need to flow down through the centre console sides so, bespoke trimming requires or I’d have had to get better with the sewing machine.

I’ve noticed there’s a lot of fake stick on alcantara on the market now. I don’t think it looks good but, it would allow you to purchase and play out some scenarios without committing to a final product.
