Buying a 2014-15 c63 507 engine
With this engine being very rare I am obviously having a hard time finding a replacement. Thought I'd reach out to you fine people and maybe someone will know of one being sold.
I am in CA.
Thanks

Is it though? I have been curious about this and I just did this research last week at least with the dealer I work with and just with the block. The 507 and BS at least from the parts catalog share the same part # for the block. Go to any dealer and ask for the block, the part # block ending in 98-00 is for P61 and P98 only. All others (which would include the P31) get a different part # which is $10,000 cheaper.

$10K DIFFERENCE in just the block ?
I'm sure many will chime in with info from Tasos but that's very interesting info

For what it's worth my parts program shows almost all m156 engine blocks as part number 156-010-84-05
however the c63 black series and all increased output variants of the c63 p31/507 as sharing the same block and using 156-010-99-00 which is odd wasn't expecting to see that.

The "regular" M156 engines use the 156-010-84-05 block. The increased output variants with forged engine internals use the 156-010-99-00 block, which has additional channeling in the bottom end so that the air pressure created under a particular piston moving downward during the combustion stroke is channeled to the piston opposite in the "V" and helps to push it up instead of it going in the entire crankcase. I also seem to recall there was some talk about a somewhat different (better? harder? longer-lasting?) treatment of the cylinder bores, but I don't recall seeing anything official on this.

I will be the first to admit that I am not 100% sure what the differences are, I am just going off of the parts catalog with pricing and part #. From searching, I thought only the black series has the additional channeling in the bottom end, but if all the "increased output" vehicles use the same block (according to the part #) then that would mean that the only difference in the black series engine wise comes from a tune if I am not mistaken.

It is interesting that the blocks are different part #'s between the "increased output" vs normal and they could be different, but if you look at the intake manifolds everybody says they are the same except paint. Same thing thought, different part # for normal vs "increased output" and $1,000 difference between them.

Are you trying to justify your own decisions here or just using the wrong argument to make a point? They are different. No one is bringing into question whether the difference between two similar but not identical items is worth the price difference between them - that is indeed up to individual preferences - but they are not the same.
Not sure what you are thinking I’m trying to justify, my point was that on here I have always read that the BS has a different block and are different from all other trims just like all intake manifolds are the same. . Which according the the parts catalog isn’t true. So by that logic could it not mean that the intake manifolds could also have a difference?

As far as I know the only differences between the standard m156 and the 507 edition is forged crankshafts and rods from the SLS series. That and an ECU alteration. For the life me though I have not been able to find someone who has put a standard m156 into a 507 to provide anecdotal evidence that it is possible. This is where I am held up

The manifolds are the same other than the paint color. Which is why they are different part numbers. non trim parts dont have paint codes, so they use different part numbers. I doubt the block is different, probably more so either a minor update / revision or change in production method since m156 / m159 was ending production - all the other models were turbo'd at that point other than c63 and sls. Regardless no one would ever bother checking an engine number unless its a collector car like a black series. And if the original engine number didn't match - which is different from the part number it would be a red flag on a collector car. With that said you have a 507, so it doesn't really matter. The performance package is also irrelevant at naturally aspirated power levels, more of a bragging, dick swinging point. a tuned non pp car vs a pp car will have identical output.

The "Increased Output" intake manifold cover is powder-coated with a titanium-gray finish vs. the bare metal finish on the "regular" cars. Mechanically they are the same.
As for the engine blocks, the BS shares the same engine block with the P31 and 507 cars. IIRC the misinformation about the BS having a different block came from a R&T, MotorTrend or some other magazine article about the BS car that ran it without fact-checking what the journalist had written. The block is indeed different from the "regular" M156 blocks - the vent holes between the cylinders are absent - but is the same in all increased output cars with the forged internals. An auto journalist made an error and the "mystery BS block" myth was born.

That clears up so much at least for me. Thank you
