M156 Engine Oil Temp Sensor

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some advice on replacing the engine oil temperature sensor on my W204 C63 Coupe.

After a hard drive, I noticed that my oil temperature readings started fluctuating and aren't staying consistent. I suspect the engine oil temp sensor might be faulty.

I've been having a hard time finding clear instructions online for this job. I understand that the sensor is located behind the AC compressor.

Is this a job that can realistically be done on a driveway?
Also, is the coolant temperature sensor located nearby, and would it make sense to replace it at the same time?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Behind the a/c compressor.

Technically you can do it in a driveway, but the compressor has to be degassed and removed to access the temp sensor.

You may be able to put it on a lift with supports for the engine and drop the subframe slightly to get access.

can I access the bolts to the ac compressor from under the car or will I need to remove parts from above?
I don't have access to a lift so I can only jack the car up on the drive.
also is the coolant temp sensor in the same area, I know the coolant and engine oil temp sensor share the same part number?

You know... searching would have taken way less time than what it took to type out your original post AND you would have had all your answers already.

Crazy huh?

Drive way is possible but you won't enjoy it. People do engine swaps in their driveways lol.

I had my sensor replaced in September. Leaking oil filled the connector and was wicking up the wire. I had planned to do it in my friends garage, but decided to take it to a shop based on how long the repair takes. You have to either remove the AC compressor or loosen it and lower the subframe.

It’s not your oil temp sensor. It’s your injectors. They need to be cleaned or replaced. Mine did the same. Replaced the sensor and it didn’t fix it. Happened to change my injectors and it totally fixed it.
