M156 engine Oil Temperture sensor location

Hi,

Can’t find a definite answer for the exact location of the oil temp sensor on a c63 w204 M156 engine.

Any photos or a diagram would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Oil Temp sensor is located behind the AC compressor.

Is it easily accessible or does the compressor have to be removed?

The strange thing is on another diagram it is showing the oil temp sensor being on a different spot (photos attached - no 50)

This one would be about an hour or so job to replace. The other one on your photo behind the AC compressor will be like a 10 hour job.

Conflicting info about which one it actually is. I’m sure on this model there’s only 1 oil temp sensor however the same part is used also for coolant temp sensor.

I can confirm it’s 100% behind the A/C compressor the other one on the right side near the alternator is the Coolant sensor and they both use the same sensor part number.

sickSVT is correct. 👍

Thanks.

Yes the A/C has to come off to get to the sensor. Took mine to the mechanic to get it done.

You don't have to completely remove it, you'll just have to lower the subframe a few inches to remove the lower bolt of the AC compressor and just set it aside.

following from my thread about engine wire harness, saw your comment regarding the same thing on this thread, is there a pic of an actual image of the AC compressor location on the engine i can see so i can know how tight it is? all i need to do is remove the connector to it not the actual oil temp sensor.

This thread might be a bit old but it's gold. Thanks folks.

One question I've heard asked but not answered is whether you have to remove anything if you don't know if you need to replace the sensor, you just want to pull [and reconnect] the connector. Do any of you know the answer to that?

Also, If I remove the ECU connector and read back through the sensor to ground, any idea what resistance it should read when cold?

When I read the oil temp pid with my iCarsoft scanner, I see that it has almost regular very clean spiky pulses from between -41C up to -32C. Not what I would expect from either a faulty sensor or an oily wire so i'm wondering if what I'm seeing is the actual sensor output or if it's a calculated/test value from the ECU.

Thanks in advance for whatever info you might be able to offer.
