Next AMG C63 to ditch V8 for hybrid four-pot
I guess this is why the US isn't getting the cla45 S. With that cars near 420 hp it dilutes a 4 cylinder c63 if the hp is too close
Have a couple V8 ones left if anyone wants
I have to start hoarding them
"New engine based on the M139 4 cylinder but with hybrid tech" seems to have been misinterpreted as 'it will be a 4 cylinder engine" as opposed to "it will be a V8 based on a 4 cylinder engine just like the current V8 is".

On the other hand, a turbo V8 should already post well past 500hp by itself. Adding hybrid technology should put it in near 600hp and into Mercedes' flagship AMG GT 63 category. That doesn't make sense unless they're going with a mild-hybrid 48V technology (instead of full hybrid) which the BMW next gen G8x will do.
If you have more substantive insight, please do tell.

i'm guessing the 43 model will have the same eninge and output like the regular 45 and the 63 should be changed to some number > 45 and < 53 imo...
no more 6 cylinders so this also go for the 400 and the 43 nor does it make sense that a 53 model has a 3L 6 cyl and a 63 would have a 2L 4cyl...

It's hard to tell from a business standpoint whether this is true since the market is still very much V8 centric (for now). If they go the 4 cyl or 6 route then it would be hard to justify sales for a 90k+ car when you have many other options from AMG or M that provide better value at a lower price point.

We all love the v8 but a 4cyl will save much weight, provide more space and for the sound we don't need the v8 anymore again thx to ever stricter eu rules. With all the autonomous driving the end of fun cars is near anyway. Maybe 10 more years before cars drive us around?
Jun 9th, picking it up from the dealership.

Right now the M276 V6 is used in 6 vehicles:
- C43
- C400
- GLC43
- S560e
- S320 (China only)
- BJ90 (China only, it's essentially a slightly enlarged GL Class)
Moving over to the 4 cylinder would mean that they're now using a brand new engine that can easily meet ever tightening pollution regulations. It also means simplifying their gasoline engine line up and, as an added benefit, it would reduce the cost of the S320 and BJ90 in China because China taxes cars based on engine displacement. Engines 3.0L and larger are in a separate tax bracket; that's part of the reason why Audi made its high end twin turbo V6 that goes in some S and RS cars as wells as Porsche and Bentley hybrids 2.9L.
Who knows, I could be completely wrong and maybe the C63 will get the 4 cylinder. However, to me, my reasoning makes a lot more sense then all these YouTubers and new car sites that are just repeating a 1 year old Autocar rumor that has had nothing to back it up and hasn't been followed up on.
