Just came across this Road&Track article by Matt Farah. Sort of related to the SmokingTire review I posted above and it gets to the core issues I have with AMG's E Performance tech. I've said it before, I'm not against hybridization in performance cars as long as it's done right, and Porsche did it right with the new 911 GTS T-Hybrid. Instead of downsizing the engine, they increased the displacement, yet the new engine is more efficient than the old engine, because thanks to the hybrid tech it always runs at the perfect lamba=1 air/fuel ratio. And while the hybrid tech adds complexity, it also removed complexity from the engine by eliminating the need for a second turbo and getting rid of the entire accessory-drive belt system, alternator and starter motor and made the AC fully electric. They made the entire car better. Notice how he comments on how it drives much better in normal mode for daily driving as opposed to the 992 tendency to bog down due to the early upshifting. I think many of us can relate to this in modern cars that start upshifting after the car is barely moving. Then there's the performance. 0-60 in 2.7 seconds with 150 hp less than the new C63. Just goes to show what you can do if the car doesn't weigh almost 5000 lbs. Granted, this is a sports car with only two doors and not a sedan, but AMG needs to do better.

yeah I also drove one too a few weeks back. I have a different opinion. It's a nice car but not good enough for the outrageous price. Tuning/modding will be a big headache. There are much better cars for the price that this thing is going for. New M5, put in 10-15k for a much better car, much better interior, engine, way way better electric range. It's a total failure for a reason with almost 0 interest. AMG golden age are over with the passing of the w205, the front mid engine amg gt. Nothing is exciting from Mercedes now that makes me say, "I really really need and want this right now!". "here's my money, just take it". That's what I felt with the c63s coupe and amg gtr. The current line up with exception of the new amg gt (which I love the looks but not very excited about it for many reason) makes me think, "hmm give me 25% off msrp plus extended warranty plus 2 years free maintenance and beg me to buy it". Would never trade in my c63 coupe or amg gtr for any new amg currently. I'm keeping those 2 until I die, then they will be pass down to my kids.

Yea, Im kind of a old school car guy... hence my old 2016 E63 wagon I'll never sell...I like NA engines.. im looking for another lotus elise/exige etc... but I kinda like the yin and yang thing..

I cant do a base C300 really... so like a Lotus Elise and an awd C63/GLC63 PHEV would make a great 2 car garage. The AMG gives me the tech, some eco presence (i guess lol) and some MB luxury. Ive been with MB for 14 years now... but Im a car guy at heart.. Tracking/Solo/rallycrossing since I was 22 and Im 45 now.... but the future is inEvitable lol... (thats the motortrend ev podcast..I only listen for Johnny Lieberman)

I would lease the C63/GLC63 though... the tech is new and depreciation could a question....

I think it’s a great car, I’ve been enjoying it since I purchased mine.
