C63SE Performance 3rd to 4th gear jerk / fault

Hi guys,

I have got a 2024 C63se performance and I have come sccross a weird fault with the gearbox.

In sports mode / race mode in manual gearbox mode the shifts from 3 to 4 are extremely jerky / uncomfortable to the point when you give it a few blasts the gearbox locks it self temporarily as I think it knows there’s a certain amount of pressure on the gearbox.

This is the strange part .. in auto mode in the same drive mode so race or sports mode for example the shifts are smooth…

so is this a gaerbox software glitch that needs a TCU update via software ?

also can anyone confirm if there has been any TCU updates or anything similar to this.

Thanks

I don't know what the current status is, but the 9-MCT has had issues together with the M139 since the W206 C43 was released. It's the first time AMG is using this transmission with anything other than the V8. The issues came to light during the press drives of the C43 and AMG responded that there's a software issue whereby certain driving styles cause the adaptations to never complete, resulting in jerky shifts in certain situations. It's not clear if the C63SE inherited the same issues and I have not heard if AMG finally released an update. The temporary fix was to have the dealership reset the adaptations and then hope it would adapt correctly the second time, but if the car is driven in the same manner again, it may just get into the same situation again. Given that both the C43 and C63SE are being discontinued and replaced with an all-new C53 that will have the powertrain from the CLE53, not sure how much AMG is still interested in sorting out remaining issues with the car. They've lost billions on this flop of a car already.

Yeah I’ve heard a lot of C43 owners having the same issue. I will book it into Mercedes it surely should be software and not mechanical as in auto mode it doesn’t do it and only in manual mode, to some extents where if you shift so may times in manual mode between 3/4 gear the gearbox goes into a protect mode.

There is also the matter of the additional 2-gear transmission for the e-motor on the rear axle. In the modes you are having the issue, it uses both gears. In Comfort mode it's always in the second gear. Having driven the car myself, that combination of the main transmission and the 2-speed transmission has some awkward delays and power delivery cuts when the 2-speed needs to shift to the 2nd gear. It's possible that with manual mode you can catch it in a bad moment. I've driven it in Race and manual mode on a track in Germany and this interaction between the two transmissions is one major thing that put me off.

Yeah it’s very much likely that what you are saying is correct, just a little wierd how in auto matic mode even in race between the same gears it’s smooth a little kick in the back… but that’s what you expect with the wet clutch, in manual mode in 3 to 4th gear it feels like someone has pushed you in the back and sometimes when you are constantly changing between 3 and 4th the gearbox goes into a little protect mode for a few seconds.

Any other gear 1-2 in manual or 4-5 doesn’t happen in race mode so must be a calibration issue between 3/4
