They have the gear selector and the command controller in the wrong position.
You have to reach over the gear selector to operate the command controller.
Also you only touch the gear selector once to start driving and once to stop driving, you will interact with the controller 100x more than you will with the drive selector.
Poor design IMO but other than that the interior looks pretty good.

You can rest your hand on the shifter, and it makes using that the touchpad easier.

Oh yes. That makes much more sense than switching the two when designing the car.
I am sure they were talking like this
MB Engineer 1 : "man this gear selector never gets used, people just put it in drive and then put it in park... its almost like its not needed."
MB Engineer 2 : "I know, lets put it in front of the command controller so that it can become a hand rest for when people want to use the thing that allows them to interact with almost EVERY system/function in the car."
MB Engineer 1: "Brilliant! That will also increase the risk of them accidentally shifting the car into neutral, thus giving them the feeling of driving a manual!"

I don't really like it. The console area is too busy. Too many big *** buttons!

That's just my opinion, My arms aren't that long, and I see it as a benefit to me, even while using it while driving.

While I see your point, I could also see that if they were switched people would be in an awkward position to try and use the command controller. I feel like you'd have to force your arm back or angle it in a way so you can use the control.

Again, I see what you're saying, but I feel like they had to make a decision based off that. I bet you wont be able to use the command control while the vehicle is in motion anyway so that will eliminate the risk of shifting when you don't want to.

Beautiful interior but I do agree with you. The gear selector and Comand controller should be switched. It just makes more sense if they're flipped.

If you have long arms, then switching the gear shift and comand control won't be comfortable. The dash stitching wrapping around the air conditioner vents is hot.

Far far better than the SLS interior which was always a let down - beautiful leather combined with c-class plastic controls and buttons.

I think this, along with the new S coupe are the 2 best executed MB interiors in modern times.

I just hope they have improved the DCT so it at least matches BMWs latest unit, if not Porsche's PDK which remains stunning. Can't understand why MB and particularly AMG use a transmission so unresponsive to paddle shifts.

MB AMG builds their transmissions in house. BMW outsources their DCT to Getrag. BMW also outsources their automatic transmission to ZF. That's why BMW's transmissions are so good; they're built my dedicated transmission companies.

Seats are the same recaro seats out of the cla45 AMG. Having sat in them first hand they are BY FAR the best seats mercedes have ever made (or not made bc they are technically recaro). You will love them

AMG needs to outsource their transmissions, like they do their seats.

I hope the CLA45/GT Recaros are standard on the W205.

Or, at the very least, an option.
