Mercedes SLS successor Interior revealed by Mercedes
You have to reach over the gear selector to operate the command controller.
Also you only touch the gear selector once to start driving and once to stop driving, you will interact with the controller 100x more than you will with the drive selector.
Poor design IMO but other than that the interior looks pretty good.

I am sure they were talking like this
MB Engineer 1 : "man this gear selector never gets used, people just put it in drive and then put it in park... its almost like its not needed."
MB Engineer 2 : "I know, lets put it in front of the command controller so that it can become a hand rest for when people want to use the thing that allows them to interact with almost EVERY system/function in the car."
MB Engineer 1: "Brilliant! That will also increase the risk of them accidentally shifting the car into neutral, thus giving them the feeling of driving a manual!"

Again, I see what you're saying, but I feel like they had to make a decision based off that. I bet you wont be able to use the command control while the vehicle is in motion anyway so that will eliminate the risk of shifting when you don't want to.

I think this, along with the new S coupe are the 2 best executed MB interiors in modern times.
I just hope they have improved the DCT so it at least matches BMWs latest unit, if not Porsche's PDK which remains stunning. Can't understand why MB and particularly AMG use a transmission so unresponsive to paddle shifts.

I want Sport Seats as an option.
