Figured I'd stick my W205 intro post here (though I've been posting in this forum for a month or so). I had the itch for something new. I like my W204 C63 quite a bit, but it was beginning to look a bit dated to me. I debated between a Comp Pack F80 M3, an Alfa QV, and a used E63 AMG. However, circumstances conspired to put me in this:



I was headed to Minnesota for work, and it just so happened that the Mercedes dealer in Maplewood, MN had one of the last 2016 C63 AMG S left for sale in the country. Cardinal Red designo paint (my second choice after Brilliant Blue), Lighting Package, Multimedia Package, AMG Performance Exhaust, Pano Roof, 19" forged cross-spoke wheels, and Parktronic. MSRP of $86k. I inquired about a reduced price, they made me an offer, I countered with what I thought was a lowball, they accepted, and there I was: owner of a new 2016 C63 AMG S with 420 miles on it.

The first step was getting it home: as I said, I was headed to the area for work, but originally planned to check it out in person, and then have it shipped. For whatever reason, shipping was MUCH more expensive than other cars I've had shipped in the past: the average quote was $1500. At that point, I decided to drive it home. 1426 miles. Straight through. Fueled by Red Bull and Swedish Fish. After a long and generally boring ride through hundreds and hundreds of miles of cornfields, I eventually arrived home, with a front bumper looking like this:

I wasn't a big fan of the the silver fiberglass center console originally, but actually have grown to like it quite a bit. It really lightens up the interior:


However, I still haven't grown to like the silver Alcantara inserts in the seats. With a black, silver, gray or white exterior, I think these would look great, but I don't think they really work with the red. However, for 26% off MSRP, I'll grow to like them:

Overall, my impressions are: I LOVE this car. The engine is simply amazing. I thought the 6.2L M156 was fun, but this engine takes it to another level. Power EVERYWHERE, absolutely no lag, it just gets up and goes. The adjustable suspension is great: smooth in Comfort mode, but responsive without being harsh in Sport and Sport+. The steering is nicely weighted, though with little in the way of feel. The interior (despite my loathing of the Alcantara inserts) is a very nice place to spend some time (I should know after logging 19.5 straight hours driving it home). The exhaust sounds amazing in Sport+ mode: burbles, pops and overrun everywhere. I love the paint, it's got just a hint of orange and brown in it. The Pano roof is great. My son seems to have a few more inches of headroom in the back in his carseat.

Couple of minor qualms you guys are likely familiar with:
1) The center console is considerably wider than in the W204. It looks great, but comes at the expense of a bit of legroom: my right knee butts up against the console, and at the point where it hits, it's not very well padded.
2) The seat bolstering is a bit lacking, especially the seat cushion. The W204 had VERY aggressive bolstering (at the expense of the longevity of the seating material; I replaced the lower and upper seat cover on my W204 due to cracking). It seems MB went a bit too far in the other direction in the W205.
3) The brake pads dust like no other pad I've ever seen, and I thought my W204 pads were bad.
4) There was initially a minor rubbing/squeaking sound from the dash. It's gotten much better, to the point where I'm having trouble consistently recreating it to try and pinpoint the location. I *think* it's the strut lube/replacement issue that I read about here, and will have my dealer check it out. Happy to report no other squeaks/creaks/rattles, but I'm only at ~2500 miles.

Overall, very happy with my purchase.

Yup, the oil and plugs just got delivered today. Going to DIY it this week and do a quick write-up.

 

That is the reason why I went with the performance seats because it didn't feel good sitting in the regular seats. I love the red and congrats on the purchase.

 

Those rear tail lights tinted? What percent, if you don't mind me asking?

 

Hi its smoke painted not tint.. i dont like the tinted finsh. According to the shop its only medium to still look oem but you can tell its different

 

Here is another photo nicer when its about to get dark. Ask around your area there must be a shop doing smoke paint.
