Manual Rear Sun Shade Mandatory....?

Okay, so just reviewed by PO with my MB Sales Consultant and he tells me that 313 - Manual Rear Seat Window Sun Shade cannot be removed and is mandatory for my June 1st Decade build. Its listed at $380 on the PO. I've researched this and cannot (1) find anything that says its mandatory and (2) find any pictures of what this looks like inside the car. His argument is if I demand that its removed, I will lose my build date and will have to wait for a new allocation.

Your thoughts on what might be going on here before I call my guy back with a bit of attitude? I don't believe MB would force me to buy anything I don't want. With my build date 50+ days from today, how would this one change cause me to lose this allocation?

Thanks.

He is definitely lying. I don't see why that would be mandatory.

Its not like its an already built car. I also don't think the order could freeze this early. Why don't you drive down to Fletcher?

I really would like to drive down there but I'm in DC and may have to go directly to Japan for two weeks. So I just got an e-mail from him explaining that its an early build and they have no control over certain options in an early build.

I guess my next question is can I have a shop remove these immediately or are they permanent?

Found pic....I've seen this before. It doesn't look too challenging. I'll just have them removed and see if I can sell them to recoup a few dollars.

Plan A, tell him you didn't order it and refuse to pay for it. If they want to lose a sale over $380...

Plan B, have them remove it at the stealership (again not charging you $380).

In other news, I think this is a pretty cool option. I had them on my e55. If you do keep them, I'm sure you can remove them and sell it pretty easily. Rear seat sunshades have always been manual.

Yeah, will likely keep it. Not a big enough deal and I think its something that can grow on me. I was just shocked that it was included, cost me $$$, and I could not remove it. If its part of the release package, I'm over it and will move on. I love this car too much to make it an issue. However, if I find out he lied to me, I will cc him a copy of my e-mail to MBUSA and my comments on any customer service survey.

It's a different door panel so it's not easy to "remove". The factory does implement those restrictions sometimes. It's not the dealership trying to upsell you.

Thanks JP....! Would you happen to have a picture (or link) so I can see how its configured? Is it the version inserted into the door panel with the pull tab exposed? Thanks again.

Complete BS on the dealer's part. That is not mandatory.

Do a build and price on the website, and tell the sales guy that is the car you want. Call his bluff on your order date. If you seem too anxious, you lose any bargaining power.
Out of curiosity, why the hate in for the sunshades?

I'm over it. After researching it a bit, I found out it might actually be a good option to have. However, I'm big on integrity and honesty and know that games can be played in this market. I've had some really good sales people over the years and always give them the highest score and feedback possible on their customer service surveys. So I take good care of them when they take good care of me.

I don't really hate the sunshades....my initial frustration was with the idea of being forced to pay for something I never requested and then told I would lose my allocation if I didn't. I think its a good option but never asked for it. Like I said, if I find out he lied, I will be sure to share my thoughts with MBUSA and his boss.

Having said that, I'm taking his word for it because its only $300 and I'm not sure anyone would risk getting a bad customer service report for a few dollars in profit.

From experience I can tell you that they make noe rattling noise, and they are good option to have, especially in warm climate.

I have said it in this thread prior and I will say it again...the factory DOES in fact do this from time to time. I am sure you dealership is not trying to up your MSRP by a few hundred dollars.

JP...got it.

My last post was in response to the recent comments added to this thread. As far as I'm concerned, this issue and thread is closed.
