Why are so few C63 run at the track? W205 better?

I currently own a porsche 997s and a GT3 Cup race car.
I'm selling both cars and dialing it back quite a few notches. (2 babies will do that) I want a good smaller 4 door I can play with at track days sometimes.

The immediate and obvious choice was the M3. Almost got one when the new 2015 c63s caught my attention. I like the looks of the C63s better than the M3 (Inside and out). Also from the videos yield a much better sounding engine... Still waiting on lap times......

This brought up a question I hope folks here could ponder on without causing too much craziness:
Why do so few folks track the c63 compared with say an M3? Would you expect this to change in any way with this new generation of cars?

I think a big part of it was the heating issue in the W204. By the end of both cars lifecycles the C63 was doing better at many track including the the ring. This car hopefully has the heating issue sorted out. The car is a bit heavier than the M3 but the official weight isn't out yet.

until now. You can have the best of both worlds in one vehicle. This is what Bernd Schneider talks about during his track run in Portugal.

I use another car for track days. The C63's I've had function as my DD and fun backroads type of car. My W205 will be used in the same fashion. Once again, in considering a DD, I considered 911 turbo, GTR, Tesla Model S D, E63 S, and none seem to fit my needs of fun/practicality/luxury that I require for a DD car. I keep going back to the AMG with small wheelbase and BIG engine-a winning formula!

I suppose it all depends on which region of the country you're in and when you're at the track.

I use my LCI W204 for track days. And I've seen a couple of C63s at the track in the time I've had mine (just over 1.5 years).

One major reason you'll see more M3s is because the M3 has much more of a track pedigree than the C63 does. The W204 C63 was really a giant leap forward for the AMG brand. In 2012, the W204 model became even sharper when it received a heavily revamped suspension and the MCT transmission (which replaced the conventional automatic w/ torque converter).

At the same time, we saw the C63 Black Series launch. And since 2012, one of the main AMG brand objectives has been to make the cars more dynamic and more well-rounded (while still retaining the signature AMG attributes that AMG enthusiasts enjoy).

Now we have cars like the W212 E63 S, the AMG GT/GT S, and the W205 C63/C63 S.

Reading this reminded me that I need to learn more about the MCT. I found this video which helped a bit.

Nice find. The "old" version of the MCT (i.e., the MCT in the W204) gets criticized a bit when compared to outstanding dual-clutch transmissions like the M-DCT and PDK.

However, overall, it's a pretty solid transmission. I mean, 100-millisecond shifts are nothing to scoff at. Furthermore, the automatic modes are really well-executed. In C mode, there's no surging or bucking at low speeds.

With the DCT in the E9X M3, lifting off the throttle at low speeds in 1st gear could sometimes cause violent engine braking (bucking). If someone tried to roll on more throttle without grabbing a shift, the car could then jerk (surge) forward. As a passenger, that was never fun to experience lol.

The biggest knock on the MCT is that sometimes, there can be a delay when trying to grab a shift in M mode. Also, some LCI W204 owners have experienced surging oil temperatures when tracking their cars hard in warm weather (these higher temps can trigger a temporary limp mode).

Judging by all of the W205 reviews thus far, it seems that the MCT has been improved massively. Some people are still skeptical because the transmission is still not a DCT. I don't care what the transmission is so long as it performs.

The ZF 8-speed "Sport Auto." is one of the best transmissions I've ever used and it's a traditional automatic. What is most important is that the transmission used suits the character of the car.

With the intro of the AMG GT and it's new transmission I'm sure we will see some changes with other AMG's in the near future as well.
