Rattling noise

I have been driving my c63 for about 3 weeks. Have about 1000km on it. All of a sudden. I heard this rattling noise in the center console area every time I drive through an uneven road. Maybe the center screen is hitting the dashboard?

Anyone experience the same thing?

No Joe. I am at 700km. Did you put anything in the dash console.

I had something vibrating in the a-pillar drivers side..... then I rolled the windows up/down, opened closed the doors.... and it has not come back. Keep us posted.
it could have just been some loose change.... but it's gone now.

I have a bit of a rattle as well... only 650kms on my car. With the suspension being so stiff compared to most vehicles and running 19" wheels with low profile tires, I'm sure we will hear a few sounds running over uneven road...

I know this is a little unrelated not being a C63 variant however these sorts of problems seem to be common with all variants, just recently I had a brand new W205 sedan fully optioned C250 variant on loan for almost 3 weeks and was disappointed to see it had an annoying loud rattle emanating from the dash dials area and also rattles from the drivers side door trim and a loud ticking noise from the rear end of the car ???

No such problems with any of the numerous W/C204's I've driven

I documented this in another thread as it seems quite a lot of new W205 owners (here in Australia) are coming across these problems.

I really hope MB sort out all these glitches or teething probs with this new 205 series - more justification to not buy one of an initial production of new model of vehicle...

C-class gents. It's stiff, sporty, and at the end of the day entry level. She's going to pick up some shakes and rattles as time goes on.

Obviously you're upset at 1000kms to have it start. If I were you, I'd drive it some more and let the car settle. As soon as you take it to a dealer and complain about interior rattles they'll start to tear it apart and it'll never fit the same going back in.

Never a good idea to get a first year model, IMO.

They always have issues.

I have a rattle in my S Class but it's fixed now. It's in the centre console, it was caused by stuff going inside the centre console. Mercedes took it out for me.

I have to disagree here. It's not entry level for Merc, the A class is their entry level car. The C class ain't no S class but it's sold as a high quality compact executive car. Just look at the materials and quality of the interior, it's not cheap plastics.

I'd maybe accept something like this from a Ford or other lower end brand but I'd expect a German car to be solid. They are more expensive and known to be well designed and well built. It's why they have the reputation of building the best cars generally in the world.

Nothing's perfect but if it's new and bothers you then get it looked at in my opinion. I'd be disappointed if I had something like that.

You do know they are both made here in the US right? Virtually across the street from each other. But I agree -- I expect more from a luxury brand like Merc.

I'm in the UK. Pretty sure my C63 won't be built in the U.S. I guess the "Made in U.S." badges on products are to be avoided then? :p Just playing

That's interesting... The W205 sedans we have here in Aus are all assembled in East London South Africa, but the estate, hybrid and AMG variants will come directly from Germany. I wonder if this will make any difference to the build quality?

Agree as noted already.

I always wait until after the mid life upgrades/face lifts or towards the latter part of the model cycle as that's where most problems are sorted out and the best variants of that breed are released later on as well.

That above is an interesting one...

degs you are correct the W205 "regular" or non AMG variants destined for Australia are now being supplied from South Africa I don't know if that's the cause of the issues but prior to that AFAIK the W204 (and C204) was wholly supplied from German plants.

Again AFAIK there were issues with the previous W203 series also being supplied from South Africa.

I'm told it's due to high demand and wait periods, but it'll be interesting to see if they (MB Australia) go back to full supply from German plants only as was the case with the 204 series.

Yep spot on about the W203. Interesting corrolation developing but it might mean nothing, only time will tell I suppose...? As I understand it the plant in South Africa is meant to have one of the highest build standards world wide and actually came in ahead of Bremen in a global quality audit, or so the story goes - so go figure..?!

I'm not sure why but I'm quite happy about the fact that my German car will actually be made and assembled in Germany, probably more happy than I should be in an age of globalisation....

My US made AMG was built in alabama.

My only issues after 750 miles:
1. loose side skirts both sides. double sided tape coming loose. Dealer has new ones on order.
2. the occasional squeak from the dash, which I've yet to nail down. The nice soundsystem, and/or perf exh mask these readily.
3. the side plastic on the drivers seat on rear left side came off.... but it snapped back in place. Not sure if it came this way from the factory. Time will tell if it keeps falling off. Not a very snug fit.

Just little stuff so far.

Wonderful! NOT! These type of trim issues don't engender confidence in the build quality. Sounds like things are still being sorted out.

Yea, the exterior trim is a simple fix........just a few clips and double sided tape

The interior trim piece on the bottom of the seat, well, I snapped mine back in together and am confident it won't come back off. Just weird that betrezra had the same exact issues.

Did you buy from MB of Sugarland?

Perhaps the same guy offloaded the cars and used the side skirts as a step, and was large enough to pull the side plastic off around the seat belt

Cheers,
JEFF

I've got the performance Seats.

I'm pretty sure my squeak is from my driver seat. Rocking ever so slightly. It does not move... it just squeaks if I rock back forth a little bit.

This is really unfortunate to hear considering that I previously had many squeaks and rattles in my W204 C63 as well as many other owners. Now that this car is no longer an "entry model c-class", These noises should not be a concern.

Most people don't get this fixed, unfortunately this means that if MB does not get enough repairs/complains then they will not update a fix in the new MY.
