Made the Switch - 335i to C63 AMG

Hi all!

Just made the switch after 3 BMWs (e46 M3, 535i, and F30 335i), as I felt it was time to change it up and upgrade the 'ol daily driver!

Originally, i had put in an order for the C450AMG, but after several options were not available and the pricing up in the air, i ended up just going for the full on AMG.

Build date estimated to be the 3rd week of October - buying, not leasing as this will be a 6yr car for me

- Polar White
- Black Leather Int
- Black Ash, Open-Pore
- 19" AMG 5-Spoke
- Red Brake Calipers
- Lighting Package
- Rear and Side Fender Deletion(s) (Daily Driver and Commercial Sales - those that i want to know (enthusiasts) will know )
- Comfort Access
- Rear Side Impact Airbags (two kids)
- Nav prewire (I don't ever use the Nav/COMMAND (or related) features)
- Night Styling

This is my first AMG, and I've been on these boards awhile looking at cars and features - I'd appreciate any input if anyone went without the Multimedia as I can change the 'pre-wire' to full package if i decide by next week.

Overall, I'm just glad to join the community, and I look forward to my first MB!!!!

As a former owner of 2 modified (M Performance) F30 M Sport 335i sedans (plus 2 N54-equipped E90s before that), I can say that you will be glad you made the "upgrade."

Welcome to the board and congrats on the order.

Thank you!!!! I appreciate the validation as well from a fellow former 335i owner

Did you (or anyone else) just go ahead and throw the extended warranty on their car? Prior experience with it?

Congratulations!

I asked a similar question on the multimedia last week, so far seems like everyone ordered it. Below's my thread:

I asked about extended warranty as well:

Great to see someone else who actually buys their cars to keep for a long term as I do with all my cars were you able to get an extended warranty deal thrown in...

In terms of features/options IMO get it all, it's part of what makes a MB a MB

Haha thanks!!!

This is what i refer to as my 'dream young family sedan,' and like I said want to keep this car for 6 yrs

They're discussing the ext. warranty thrown in, as i'm paying MSRP (pretty standard I've seen with the AMGs) so with the room i know the dealer has i'm getting lots of things thrown in - i'll let you know what i end up with

With that being said you'd still recommend just getting MM package? I figured that w/ the pre-wire at least i could add Nav later if I wanted it, and after have the 335i w/ every option it could have, I found new 'must haves' (keyless entry/trunk) and others that were more 'meh' (Navigation, voice control).

Great color combo! I was thinking about going white as white, but my previous car was white. Passing over to the dark side..

First of all the C450 isn't an AMG and never will be. Also congrats on the order! You won't regret going for the full on real AMG! Can't wait to see pictures of it when it arrives, and hopefully you won't have to deal with any delays!

335d xDrive, C63S on order
I've got a F30 335d xDrive currently and going to a C63S which is on order. Not sure you can get the diesel version of the 335 in the U.S. but it's faster than the 335i because of the huge torque numbers (Just shy of the new C63 non S edition). It doesn't sound bad for a diesel at all but I want that V8 growl in my life

Anyway interesting that you've gone for badge deletion as not sure what to do there. I have the badges deleted on my 335d to avoid the clients saying the old "We clearly are paying you too much" line. That and it seems to have cut people trying to race me off the lights as I had in my 330d. Normally always in cars that have zero chance of beating me. Though when I want to stay in front they get a shock as the car they assumed was a 318d starts to growl at them

In my heart I want to keep them on but my head says remove them so the car attracts less attention.

Yes I suppose it's each to their own, I purchase and own all my my cars outright and keep them long term, the short term "extremely expensive rent-a-car" approach (leasing) does not work for me.

With features again each to their own, I'm a tech freak so love to have everything included, maybe go to the dealership and try out the MM option and see if it's a goer or not

Interesting you mention some things of your diesel BMW there, with most types they are indeed more powerful and faster than their direct petrol counterpart as a reference my little 2.1ltr IL4 TT diesel C250-CDI has more torque output than a C63's M156 and does also shock a lot of unsuspecting people

2015 C63 AMG S
Congrats and welcome to AMG club. Last week I also picked my first Mercedes C63S. I have been pretty much BMW guy (E90 330i, E92 335i, F10 550i and E92 M3).

I'm absolutely loving the C63s.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your decision.
I ordered the MM because I believe as a package it is a good value. For one the screen is bigger and the resolution is better.
Any thoughts on the black wheels and the c/f spoiler? How about the rear sun shade? I lived in FL myself and during those hot summer days it does help a bit.
Good choice on the rear optional airbags, I've got a 6 yr old and got it as well.
Extended warranty is a must on these cars as suggested by many AMG owners. If they throw it in there for free it would be nothing short of a miracle. What plan are you looking at and how much are they quoting you?

They're quoting me $6700 for the extra year/75,000 and $7100 for the 6yr/100,000

I threw the question out there because I thought it sounded high, but I don't have a comparison to really say what 'high' is

They told me I can add the C/F trim bits if I want later on in the build cycle (August or so), and I thought for rear sun shade but again bad experience w/ the BMW sunshade and honestly just looked at this as another thing to break lol ... but in all seriousness after having a white car, black interior thus far in FL, i know for sure the windows will be well tinted

I was torn on the deletion, as the people living in the area I frequently work in (Naples) in general wouldn't bat an eye, but like you I do not want to rub it in for clients, or junior coworkers for that matter, and while yes when I start the car they'll know it's not "just a c300," i will when the car is at rest have a more incognito look, and that's ok with me

Thank you!!!

And you're right...in my heart of hearts that would have eaten me alive having had other AMG guys say "Oh it's an AMG like mine?", point to an e63, etc, and have to then say "no, see it's the AMG-Sport which is......" Mostly because the way i had the car optioned (450) i was looking at about $63k (est), VS going $7 more and just have the full blooded 63. I made a commitment that this is a long term car, so it would have been another 5,6 years before I had another crack and at 35, I will probably be moving to the SUV market (older kids then)....

I passed on a c63 in 2009, and it has haunted me since, and I don't want to do that again not knowing what could have been...

I paid $3000 for a 7/75000 on a c350 so in comparison $7100 for a 6/100000 is not bad which is probably what I will go for. I plan on purchasing it after a couple of years so it won't hurt as bad.
I've got the sunshade on my c350 and I've never had a problem with it.

Good choice. I'm not a fan of the AMG "sport" line just for the sake of making more money and following in the footsteps of Audi - s line and BMW M sport.
I saw a c250 coupe with an AMG badge on it the other day and I was like
I almost got the 507 about a year and a half ago so I understand the disappointment. Could not get rear side bags in it so I had to pass on it. Same thing with the RS5 and the M4.
I also have an Explorer so I'm set in that department

Former bimmer guys...assuming one or more of your old 3 series were 6MT somewhere along the line, do you miss manual shifting?

my e46 M3 was my first go without a manual, and I found that while I didn't miss it, it wasn't a deal breaker as my prior manual cars got annoying in stop and go traffic. Granted....I learned my first 'german car lesson' - don't own specialty cars out of warranty

Both my 5- and 3- series were the sport automatics, and they(not my SMG M3) did make me miss having a manual....

But after driving the C63...the sounds told me if was ok to stick w/ the auto

The N54 tuning market was HUGE. My 09 335xi had full bolts on (no turbos or meth) and was a rocket. I still smile whenever I look at the picture I attached.

BMW F30 335i M-Sport
OP, congrats on the move. Very interested to hear your feedback on the switch after your new car comes in. I'm in a F30 335i M Sport w/ DHP now and am very disappointed in the crashy front suspension... the trans and engine are awesome though.. I'm getting married next yr and want to buy a house so trying to hold off making the jump to the AMG now, so I may just throw the Dinan springs and shockware on it with a mild tune and try to enjoy it for another year or 2... this would also give me time to see what they do with the AMG coupe

Can you elaborate on your claims?(BMW 335d faster than a 335i?).. .

A 335i does 0-60 in mid 4s, the 335d is no where near that.

I'm not talking tuned cars but stock. The figures are all on BMW's UK site plain to see (We use Nm for Torque). Note that the 335i is not available in xDrive here where as the 335d is only available in xDrive and we cannot get a 330i anymore but you'll see that the 335d is the fastest 3 serious outside of the M3. It's got more hp and way more torque, almost as much as the base C63 which is 650Nm with the S being 700Nm. Even without xDrive it would be quicker. If you think diesels are slow then your stuck in the mindset of what diesels used to be like, not what they are like now.

BMW 335i
306hp
400Nm torque
0-62 = 5.2 secs auto

BMW 330d
258hp
560Nm torque
0-62 = 5.6 secs auto

BMW 335d xDrive
313hp
630Nm torque
0-62 = 4.8 secs auto

Proof enough?

The only catch with diesels is this is about as fast as you can get in a normal diesel road car. (Odd case like M550xd excluded). They don't really make bigger / faster diesels because people who want fast cars buy petrols because of the noise. Also diesels aren't big the world over, in Europe they are huge but US and other areas almost non existent. So when making a high performance car that's only going to sell in low volumes you don't want to make it diesel, limiting where you can sell it.

Interesting stuff. I agree though that in Europe you see 10x the diesels that you see here.
