Thoughts on the Giulia?

C class won the worst initial delivery quality rating from JD powers, and all the delays and some disappointment from some of the ED1 owners, is having me looking at competitors...

Disappointment from some ED1 owners? Most of the reviews I read have been great thus far. Link?

As for the Alfa Romeo, Initially, I thought it was a good Photoshop job of an M3 from the side view. The rear looks mean IMHO but the front has to go -- just not my taste.

If they can keep the weight at 3366 lbs (sure, remember the M and AMG promises) with 510 hp, wow. I love the red color too...!

Love the Giulia. Would be a tough choice for me choosing between the C63S Edition 1, and the Giulia. Good thing that the Giulia isn't coming to Canada otherwise I'd have a headache from deciding which car to get. (No Alfa Romeos here in Canada sadly.)

Love what I've seen thus far. Looks like Alfa came to play! Do we have any idea on price?

i don't have any links, but i did remember some ED1 owner found missing badges, and some stuff fell off, here and there, little things, they were all read from owners here. They aren't major issues, but the initial delivery quality is definitely poor to expect for a 80k+ car.

the video made the giulia engine sounded dumb and artificial.

I think if I were seeking a reliable car, Italy would be the last place I would look.

Nice video. The car looks nice, but I doubt they will have any true comparison in terms of power output to the C63 and C63S models. A comparison would be the Maserati Ghibli where the Ghibli SQ4 would be the top of the line with only 400 HP. I would see the Giulia more on the lines of this car. I considered a Ghibli for my next DD, but I just cannot go backwards in power from my current DD. The style and Status from a Maserati or Alfa Romeo can often trump an M or AMG to most people, but the real drivers and enthusiasts usually go with the German Sedans as the performance and utility are too hard to beat.

The Alfa has 510hp and weighs less than a M3...

+100

It looks nice and the purported specs are great. However, until it hits the 1/4 mile track, dyno and scales in the US, I am extremely skeptical. In addition, I would worry about dealer support with Alfa just barely in the US.

Of course we also have no idea about things like ride quality, comfort, interior space and feel, or even when it might actually arrive on this side of the Atlantic Ocean.

If the car really does come to the US in numbers large enough to convince me that it will be decently supported, at a price that is competitive with the C63S, and it proves reasonably reliable, and it performs anywhere near where the claimed specifications would suggest, and it has decent comfort and ergonomics, then perhaps I'd consider trading my wife's 2012 C63 for it ;-)

The Alfa claims to have 510 HP and claims to weigh less than an M3. Claims are easy, delivering on claims is difficult. Let's wait and see what reality brings ;-)

Wow, did know anything about this car, but just assumed it would be underpowered. Just looked up some info on the car and it looks like a winning formula. The Giulia definitely has the looks and should have the performance to compete well in the M And AMG segment.

My first car I owned was a 76 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT, so I do appreciate the marque. I think the 4C looks like a great car to own as well. Exciting times for small rocket sedans!

Alfa Romeo. I grew up in Europe and let me tell you that Alfa's were at the top of the list for enthusiasts. They sounded good, looked good, drove well, were fast but . . . they always broke down and were poorly made.
I am a fan because 2 of my uncles drove them when I was a kid and I always enjoyed watched them drive the poop out of them. If and I say if they come to the US I would love to take them for a spin.

Being of Italian descent I spent a lot of time in my younger days in Italy and was so fond of all the Alfas and Fiats of that time but as you say they were absolutely terrible in reliability, these days they've come a long way and are much better, my wife has just recently acquired a new Fiat 500 as her daily drive

This new Giulia looks good, the numbers look good but only time will tell if it has the total package winning formula or not to successfully compete in this segment.

I know a guy who had two 599 gtb's, he drove one to work everyday within a little over a year he already had over 20k miles on it, italy does a far better job than people give them credit for, however I don't know much about ALFA support in the u.s. I have a friend with an 8C, but he has someone special service it, so id stay clear.
