Video Clip for you guys, c63 - old vs c63s new.

However based on peoples reviews vids etc. and my own personal liking to FI vs N/A engine sounds on same configuration of engine type I'm sure I'm going to vote for the new 205 as better overall, that and the fact that obviously built in from OEM you can adjust the sound level as well.

As a current W204 (M156) owner that has experienced both the M177 and M178 motors, the wail of the M156 at full chat is something special.
Downshifts in S, S+, and M w/ the M156 sound absolutely diabolical as well.
That said, the existence of turbos in the M177 help to produce all kinds of glorious noises that you don't get with NA motors. You've got the induction noises plus all of the crackles, bangs, and overrun pops.
Simply put, as fantastic as the W204 sounds, AMG did a great job with the W205. You can't directly compare the engine/exhaust notes because they have substantially different characters but overall, both sound like V8-powered cars should.
