Nice time at the BMW Performance School
So, I was right in thinking that the cars performed great around the track. Even my favorite, the F10 M5, was great. The tires and grip, and oh that wail from the M4 with performance exhaust was very delicious!
I came away with the following comparisons to my new AMG. The AMG C63 only needs 275 or wider rear tires to bring it up to the M's level. This, of course, is just my opinion. Everything else--the exhaust note, interior, feel, electronics, comfort, etc., are all superior on the AMG. I don't regret having a MB one bit after being a BMW nut for such a long time.
Edit: Also, there was no bigger than a microscopic difference in shifting gears. It's so incredibly small that I think it's a non issue if that ever was someone's concern before buying.
Anyone else with similar thoughts?

I disagree with you in terms of shifting gears, I finally got to try both cars for myself, not much seat time mind you, but just enough to get a feel.
m3 shifted faster no doubt, upshift not much of a difference, downshift a little faster on the m3, but drop 2 gears.. and there the difference is very noticeable
I agree with your thoughts on build quality, AMG is a step up, so as long as they fixed all these problems that keep coming up.
two things I will miss surely from the m3, that is the exterior, and dct.
At any rate, what did annoy the heck out of some of us is how you couldn't put the cars in park while running when we were swapping in and out them. Apparently, there's some slightly more involved process of putting the DCT cars in park. Glad I dodged that annoyance. And it's probably why the M5 remains my favorite M car.

That park deal is an annoyance for me also and the one that bugs me more is you can not leave the M3 in drive and temporarily use paddles as I like to do and have it come back to auto after a short while. On the M3 if you use paddles it is permanently in manual unless you hit the shifter again.
as for the park issue, the handbrake is the best way to put the car in "park". There is really no park as it really designed as a manual. There is no P in a manual gearbox. The car goes into park mode when you turn off the engine and then turn off the electronics.
it is an annoyance, though very slight for me.

The only M model that I know has a different tranny is the X5/X6M's which use a conventional auto.
