Wider Wheel Sizes, Wider Tire Sizes and Different Wheel Offsets

Has anyone explored this yet?

I went out in to my garage just now and holy cow, the tolerances are super tight on the 205 compared to the 204.

Inside front tire barely has an extra 1/2" of clearance on the inside and the rear is a similar story.

I think I have to stick to stock width up front, and as to the rear, I think I can get away with a 285 but I'm really not that sure about it.

Any thoughts?

285 on stock rims? or with a wider wheel size?

275 on stock for sure.. dont know about 285.

with a wider rim you should be able to do 285.

like a 10

Just remember 275 and 285's are not all equal.
You can get a 275 that actually wider than a 285
Look at the Section Width not just thread with.
Not sure if the offset and space available is the same as the older c63s but the widest that would not rub fully loaded with stock rims were the Continental ExtreamContact DW, think it was 11.2 the Michelin Pilot Supper Sport were 10.9.

Rims in the back are 9.5" wide and need to be 10 for a 285.
However there are a couple of guys on this forum who are experimenting with wider tires on aftermarket wheels.
