Question Tunes: Piggy, OBDII, or Wait. Thoughts?

So I’ve been watching the tuner threads and plan to wait a bit more for feedback regarding the currently available tunes. Having said that, I’m wondering how many others are doing the same. This poll is really to get the pulse of the relatively young W205 community and help me with my decisions. Your thoughts?
  • I plan to drive stock. Period.
  • I plan to get piggyback tune.
  • I plan to wait as long as needed on OBD II access.
  • Got my tune – why wait?!
  • Gonna wait and see.

OBD will be quite some time.

We are able to do full flash currently, just need the ecu on premise

I'd get the OBD II flash only. If it takes ages to come out, as in it still not being available by next summer or fall 2016, then I would probably go for a piggyback. But the moment that flash becomes available, the piggyback would get replaced.

Just to be clear, I have your tune on my wife's 2012 C63 and I love it.

However, I have two concerns with the 2015 tune requiring extracting the ECU. First, from what I have seen it requires many hours labor to extract the ECU. Second, what happens when the dealer flashes an update to the ECU (which has already happened once and I anticipate several more)? Specifically, would that overwrite the tune and require once again extracting the ECU to send back for your tune?

Exactly my concern. I've played this game before and luckily I had Dinan installed by the dealer. Each time I had a service issue that required software related work, they would write over my tune. Because they wanted to keep the Dinan installs separate, I had to schedule a second appointment to get the Dinan S2 reinstalled. The back and forth get's old after two or three trips -- especially when the dealer is about 40 miles away.

I plan to drive stock. Period.

I always thought I'd be the last person to say that, but after spending 2 months with the car so far I don't any need to tinker with it.

The M157 biturbo owners are still waiting for a OBDII flash, its been almost 4 years since that engine hit the market. You may be waiting awhile.

In the early stages the Simos 8 ECU which resides in the B8 S4, the ECU was required to be removed and shipped out for the first iteration of flashing. They remove the security on the ECU, which then allows future flashes to be performed OBDII remotely at a local Tuning Companies dealer.

I would imagine that is the similar case here at the current state of ECU flashes.

Do not wait...why would you wait for anything in life?

Get what you want and what you deserve

Just got my ECU back from tune #2 with Jerry @ EC and it's just stupid.

Time to go get ready for a full day @ Putnam Park, thank you Lord.

Cheers.

BTW moving to 255 sections up front and 275 in rear, as well as from Dunlop to Michelin has totally changed how the car points in etc...can't wait to drive it today.

Just passed the 400 mile mark and the car feels strong. Will wait to decide until I can enjoy its full potential. Had it go sideways on me twice shifting back into second gear with little throttle on the dry. Very impressed so far.

EuroCharged - do dealer ECU flashes overwrite the tune? If so, piggyback seems to be the answer for the time being...

DTE offers a piggy back with two different maps. I contacted the dealer in germany and he said they would do 10% if there was a group by of 3. I'm sure if we could gather more people, we could get it for cheaper.

The install instructions look super easy too.

I would be interested in a tuning box type of thing, if it could be removed with a trace when the car goes in for service/warranty, etc
