Dunlop Sport Maxx RT vs. Michelin Pilot Super Sports

I noticed my C63s has the Dunlop Sport Maxx RT, but they don't seem to sell that at Tire Rack. Does anyone know if its a special tire. The sales guy was telling me its a run-flat tire, but not sure if I believe that. Anyone try to put on the Michelin Pilot super sport?

Mine has the Michelin PSS but I think if it is a run flat Mercedes puts MOE in a circle on the side wall and probably would not have a slime kit.

I've heard mixed reviews. I've got the Dunlop tires aswell and am keen to know if the Michelin PSS are better? (for when I have to change my tires)

Read the info on Tire Rack--They seem to think the PSS edges it out

The Dunlops are NOT run-flats.

Dunlop's designation for run-flats is "DSST" (Dunlop Self-Supporting Technology), and that marking is nowhere on the OEM tires supplied on the C63S.

According to Tire Rack the Dunlop Sport Maxx RT is offered as either a normal tire or a run flat Dunlop Sport Maxx RT RunOnFlat.

MO on the sidewall means Mercedes Original. I personally thought the Dunlop's were loud over the road. I will probably switch to PSS in the spring.

The Dunlops are indeed loud.

I had 2 sets of Pilot Super Sports on my S4 and loved them.

Got about 30,000 miles out of each set.

I'll be switching to the PSS for sure.

The only issue with switching to PSS as opposed to the Dunlops run-flat is the fact there is no spare tire. I really can't tell if I have the run-flat types even though my dealer says they are. It just says Sport Maxx RT....

Also, they have the rim protection...Does the PSS have it?

I had dunlops on the A45. OK for general commuting but terrible IMO for spirited driving. Changed to PSS and all was good. Grip level on PSS is impressive. The C63S was delivered with Dunlop. I asked to change it with another car which had PSS so they did. All is good.

PSS also worked well for me in my w204 C63. I also had 2 sets in front and 3 rear. Never felt like I needed to look further after the first set. The GTR community is also happy with this tire.

Tire Rack in fact tested the performance summer tires including the Dunlop Sportmaxxx RT.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=174

Long story short, the Dunlops are a near universal inferior tire haha T_T

Mine came with Dunlops as well...

As I stated above, the Dunlops that come from the factory are NOT run-flats.

Below are links to the Mercedes Original (MO) tires in the exact size that comes standard on the C63.

These are NOT run flats.

That's great, definitely changing over to PSS now that I know the RT are not run flats!

The C63 S was also developed with PSS hence why they are coming on the vehicles. MO and MO1 mean they are Mercedes Original and the "1" adds it's has a small change to the tire.

Well it is just a small amount out from the rim but not enough to do much good IMHO.

I have another car with tires with much more protection but still did not save the rim.

Rim protection is a gimmick as no small bit of rubber will prevent a two ton car from hitting the curb. Only the driver can do that.

The oe dunlops have rim protectors but as kfehling noted, there is no way they can protect the rim against the curb. It's a joke.

Do the PSS have any type of rim protection? Just wondering even if it does nothing.

My c63s came with PSS MO1 i noticed from the start a lack of grip, after only 2000km they are badly worn and sections of the tread are missing, no burn outs
, traction control has never been off. i had another set of wheels and PSS with the blank panel ie not MO1, i put those on and could not believe the difference, it grips and handles so much better, i believe there is a bad batch of these tyres out there, Michelin Australia are sending someone to have a look. has anyone else had an issue with PSS MO1
