I got it right before I had my first oil change back in September, like literally a few days before I was taking my car in for the 1 year service. Had the service tech's top it off so I never looked to see if it was low or not.

Update with the oil issue. It is indeed using a lot of oil and needs topping off every 750-1000 miles. Dealer had Mercedes send me some explanation. They said keep an eye on it, and if it doesn't improve by astound 6,000 miles they'll do an oil consumption test and rectify. They said it's not that unusual to burn more than usual amounts of oil during the first 6000 miles break in period for this motor. Let's see.
Otherwise car has been lovely with exception of rather soft windshield glass.

If you get warnings in yellow, i.e. Add 1 litre of oil or top up coolant, they are usually false warnings on the 205. Ignore unless it repeatedly comes up. If any of these show up in red text, investigate immediately.

My sedan I had for over a year didn't require a top up.
It's been 3.5 months with the coupe nothing so far.
Get them to check the consumption ASAP and I hope they are paying for the top ups....

Thanks for all the responses guys! Turns out the "express" service guys at my local dealer didn't know about the second reservoir which was barely under the fill line. Problem solved! Still the best car ever!

If they come up check the oil on dip stick or water on both reservoirs.
I had a oil warning once and checked dip stick and it was full.
I had a coolant warning once and one tank was about 6 oz. low and after topping up has never come back.

There seems to be a coolant smell all the time and I have a faint humming noise coming from underneath the hood. It does not increase with speed. Have had it at two dealers multiple times but they cannot find either one.?? Cold weather the front end either brakes or suspension parts make a cracking sound but goes away after a few times. Some interior rattles.

5000 km's in and:
Passenger side silver trim/moulding started to come off
various rattles
low oil message on twice so far
diff grinding/locking when backing up intermittently

My car is 3000 miles and it has been topped off 3 times by the dealer because every time the message came on it actually was low. Right now its seating at exactly max line since I have barely driven it since the last top up. I don't have winter setup so my Range Rover been my daily driver.
The don't check policy doesn't apply, and IMHO not good advice not to check. My dealer had the car for a week the last time investigating this. MBUSA is aware of this problem and I accepted the response to wait till 7000 miles before they take any further steps with this. I have warranty so thats ok, they'll take care of it.

Just got my car back yesterday from the dealer and all the rattles are gone. and a few other little issues. Car is 1 year old and 12k miles
rattle from sunroof.
rattle from HUD and the bezel was extremely loose.
LED door handle light was out on driver rear.
also they replaced the 4 little tabs on the rood where the roof rack attaches. they were discoloring badly.
They also performed a "campaign" on a fuse box cover or something. i left the paperwork in my house so i don't have the exact details.
But the car is really nice now. i did not realize just how bad the rattling was.

This may be your tires scuffing. Usually it is under hard turning and when on cold surfaces. Mine have been doing it a lot lately since it had been cold out. Even after driving the car and warming the tires.

I don't believe in the notion of tire scuffing being the "answer" here. My bet is it's just simply the LSD clicking on tight turns. I've experienced this on front drives, rear drives and AWD. It's not just temperature based, but depends on surface conditions as well. When a tire slips, it's not just because the weather is cold. A limited slip differential is trying to keep both wheels driving at the same speed. With less than perfect traction, and substantial difference in speed between the inside and outside wheel, it's the action of the diff itself which instigates the slip.
On my S, for the first day or two I had a lot of this. Now almost none. I'll bet the electronic diff is learning.
