New 9-G Tronic Transmission coming on 2017 C63 Models??

Hi Guys,

New in the forum. Ordered a 2016 C63s Coupe supposed to be arriving on early June. I was watching some reviews on youtube for the car and saw that there is a new 9 Speed Transmission coming for most of the MB lineup. I would like to know if this transmission will also replace the 7G SpeedShift MCT on the C63? Possibly coming with the 2017 models? If so..I should have waited for 2017 models..

In a interview Tobias Moers said that AMG's won't have 9 speed transmissions since they have too many gears for a sports car. Plus they updated the 7G SpeedShift MCT for the W205 C63's. So I doubt that the new C63S coupe will have a 9 Speed transmission.

Standard MB models will have the 9 speed... not the AMG models.

I think 9 speed is excessive for a sports car of this kind.

Had a long in depth discussion with a MB branch manager not so long ago who recently arrived back from Affalterbach AMG head quarters and according to him YES a 9spd MCT variant of the new 9GTronic is on its way for latter production block C63's.

He said that AMG had put in a staggering amount of R&D to assess the best possible number of gears and ratios spread for future performance transmissions and a 9 speed was the definitive result...

We already know the new AMG E63's will have a 9spd MCT and AWD, I think that's obvious enough as to what latter C63's will also feature

Wow, that means we could technically also see AWD come to the AMG C63 as well. Now, lets option a Carbon Roof and a twin clutch as well.

I might be in the minority here, but I really hope they maintain the C63 as RWD only. I feel like the RWD setup defines the car's character. I don't mind the E63's switch to AWD...but they need to make sure the C63 stays the power sliding, tire smoking hooligan of the bunch.

Definitely with you on the carbon roof. I'm surprised it's not an option yet.

Although I enjoy the RWD and having fun, I think the AWD will help the over all performance of the car. If it will happen is another story.

I'm now imagining how awesome a AMG C63 S would look with a carbon roof. I think it would literally be THE PERFECT car.

Here's confirmation of the new 9-speed AMG MCT from a leaked brochure of the new E63.

At this rate the real AMG's will soon be marketed as "Black Series".

I wonder if the 9 speed MCT would fit in the C Class?

I wrapped my M3's roof with 3M's carbon wrap too! I just want an authentic carbon roof that not only lowers the cars weight and center of gravity, but also looks really good because it'll be shiny. Oh well, I'm sure the Black Series will offer it.

My guess is that the 's' designation will become the one man one engine 'real AMG' identification and AMG will be more of the top of the sport (luxury v. sports trims) version of the MBs across the board.

Ya that could happen or it'll be C43 "amg", C63, C63S, and then Black series. Although they should have just kept things the way they were. Vehicles with handbuilt engines should have stayed designated as AMG, and vehicles with non handbuilt engines should have stayed designated as a normal Mercedes. Too bad corporate greed conquers all lol.

Relating to the thread... I personally think 9 gears in a transmission are just too much. It just doesn't make the seem like a performance vehicle, and makes it seem more like a economy car.
