C63S 2016
Question c63s Black Rims Washing

guys,

I'm having a bit trouble with keeping my wheels clean. I have the matte black wheels on my C63, but due to the brake dust I have my wheels turn golden in less than 2 days anyway, I have the sonax wheel cleaner (the one which you spray and turns red while removing all the dirt) but I don't use it more often, only once every 2 weeks. But now my question is, what do you guys use for everyday cleaning to keep them clean and looking sharp? Any specific product or shall I stick to the sonax?

sometimes I hesitate to try any product as the wheels have a matte finish and some products might give the wheels a shine which would be a bummer.

AMG's are prone to break dust. It's hard to keep any wheels clean.

You are correct sir !!! These matte finish wheels are a bear to get and keep clean. Also extremely hard to get the caliper clean, hard to get in between cross spoke. I'm used to a wheel that has a clear coat finish and these do not, so I think they pick up even more dust. I like the look, but hate keeping them clean. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I'm getting ceramic pro on my black wheels this week so I'll let you know how it goes. It gets applied to the barrel of the wheel, caliper, and face. I'm hoping it makes cleaning easier and doesn't add a shine to the finish. Will post pics asap.

I have Cquartz Finest on my stock 5-twin spoke wheels. Brake dust is not that much of an issue for me. Totally worth it, although not sure if it's applicable to matte black wheels.

True true sanch! I have my car coated with ceramic pro and yet I still suffer from the brake dust! My wheels are bronzy after a day or two

I have the same wheels on my C63S but in titanium color. I broke down and invested in a set of EZ detail brushes and one long-bristle boars head brush (all on amazon).

Here's what I do to clean the wheels with a generous bucket of car wash soap...

1) Use the Big EZ brush to clean inside the wheel wells. The brush looks ginormous but it will clear the rotors easily.
2) Use the Go EZ brush to clean the lower ridge just behind the face of the wheel by placing the brush on the ridge and turning the brush back and forth. It will also clean behind the spokes.
4) Use the boars head brush to clean the caliper and your rotor hub.
5) Use a dedicated microfiber sponge to clean the face of the wheels.
6) Move your car forward or backwards about a foot to clean the portion hidden by the calipers.
7) Dry your wheels with a microfiber cloth.
Sounds like a ton of work but I get all 4 wheels perfectly clean in under 20 minutes. Good luck!

Thanks for sharing! I'm hoping the Ceramic Pro will make the cleaning process at least a little easier...

Glad to help! I'm interested in doing a ceramic coat too after the clearbra and tint are installed this weekend.

20 minutes, really? I smell some serious exaggeration or wheels that aren't that clean...

For an experiment, I put Klasse sealant (did not buff it off) on the left side and nothing on the right side fronts. We'll see what happens in a few days.

The brushes save a lot of time, just wish I had bought them sooner.

The ceramic pro definitely makes it easier to clean. I spray my wheels with the cleaner and gerni it off. Quick wipe with a microfiber cloth and its done. Never used a brush or a bucket ever.

Was worried the ceramic pro would make the matte black wheels shiny -thankfully it didn't.

In addition to what has been said I use wheel wax. AMG's create a lot of brake dust. My C63 is easier to keep clean with this product. I only wash my rims with car wash post use with this product! My SL55 rear wheels are staying much cleaner. The front wheels are creating about 50 % less maintainance.

Isn't the Ceramic Pro crazy expensive? Regardless, where can we get it? I'd like to try it. Thanks in advance.

I got it as a package deal - I did the exterior, interior, wheels and break calipers.

Google it and find the place closet to you.

For the record, there was absolutely ZERO difference between the waxed wheel and the unwaxed wheel in terms of cleanliness.. <sigh>

I had my HRE's coated with CQuartz and it definitely makes cleaning them easier.

I recently started using a product from armor all's outlast line called "brake dust repellent". I was a bit skeptical at first but after doing some research and coming across the thread below, I was more than convinced. Tried it - loved it. My wheels are powder coated hyper silver, so unfortunately no black wheel experience. Prior to using, I called armor all for clarification on whether or not it would be safe for my wheels in which they said it would be fine. My only recommendation is to make SURE you spray in a "sweeping" motion to avoid any runs or streaks. This doesn't stop your car from producing brake dust (obviously) but rather acts as a shield to prevent it from sticking. See picture below to see how well it beads.
