Nick Murray's 2017 Review is Out

He did note in the comments that he still prefers the styling of M4 vs the coupe and I'm with him on that, although the coupe makes it pretty close. For me the win is the engine in C63S ... and he's right that the M4 is definitely trying to kill you which can be fun but sometimes it's just ...

The c63 has a torque converter?
#6
Yeah, the C63 7-speed MCT is a mostly standard automatic transmission (planetary gear set) except it replaces the torque converter with a wet clutch pack like on a motorcycle. On downshifts it "double de-clutches" which I believe means opens the wet clutch pack briefly while the planetary clutches brake/release to select the proper ratio.
Benz maintains that this arrangement is better for a daily driver sports car because it allows for increased comfort and efficiency at very little cost to performance ... with this latest iteration they could be right and Nick sure seems to think so. The real reason likely has more to do with economies of scale with their other transmissions as well as great efficiency to help justify the V8.
Note that (a.) the new 9-speed MCT is coming to the E class (already here?) and to the E63 so probably to the C63 and (b.) the GT uses a DCT rather than the MCT.

Very fair review and I think spot on. The present M3/4 vs C63 are more nuanced. It would be easy to see someone liking both. I liked and drove both of the last gen M3/C63 cars.

Garbage review....
Nothing on performance, driving dynamics. Reviews should have data points so we can compare, especially when it comes to super performance sedans
