Dechrome?

Hi everyone,

Just got my C63S sedan in black, deciding if I should dechrome it like the coupe in the video attached below, not sure if it will look as good in sedan version, any comments?

CT, did you black out the front grill too? I searched for your thread but unfortunately none of the pictures you posted are showing in the thread.

I have the night package but I would like to black out the front grill and trunk.

Thanks,

Strike

I did not black out the grill, but I did do the trunk trim. It looks much better and I had it done for very little with vinyl. Just make sure the vinyl used has a backing and isn't transparent because the sun shines through the vinyl on the chrome and it looks brown otherwise.

Thank you CT-AMG

If I only black out the trunk trim and left other chrome as is, will it look weird?
Or is it go all the way or nothing at all?

If you already have the night package then what other chrome remains?

I did not black out the badges or the grill.

I replicated the black out package by having Vinyl applied around the door/window frames. I also blacked out the trunk chrome trim.

I had the lower rocker panels painted black along with the trim on the front and rear bumpers. Just like the black out package.

I also had the door handles covered in Vinyl

Has anyone blacked out the grill, either by painting or replacing? If replaced who was it purchased from and how is the quality? Was it difficult to remove the grill?

I am really considering doing this... but would like some advice.

No, not the badges, just the trunk chrome trim and only that, other chromes as is, do you think that will look good?

I am going through this dilemma right now. The blackout of the chrome trunk and door handles looks great on some colors, but kinda wonky on others. I have a diamond silver that I'm not sure what to do with. I am considering painting the chrome trim body color. Someone with a white car posted a pic of his car with the trim painted body color, and the badges blacked out. It looked sharp.

Thanks for posting!! I think that will look bad *** on my OB Black c63 with night package!

Some questions...

What color vinyl did you use?

Did they take the grill off to wrap it?

Thanks!!

CT can you post a picture of your trunk blacked out? The other threads pictures would not load.

You are not far from me, who did you use to apply the vinyl? What color did you use?

After seeing that grill blacked out I am excited to get this done!!

Slightly offtopic - What method did you use to embed the youtube video? The normal method has stopped working for some reason.

See attached images for the handles and trunk trim pics.

I used a company called infinite tint who does tinting and vinyl, see link:
http://www.infinitetint.net/automotive-division

They were good and wanted to wrap my grill but I decided against it. If you do it and it looks good maybe I will

I cannot tell you they are the worlds greatest vinyl wrappers but, I am happy with the trunk and window frames for sure..

PS: They used a special "backed" Vinyl because standard vinyl looked brown in the sun when the light reflected back off of the
underlying chrome. Once a backed Vinyl was used, there was no more reflection and it appears true black in all lighting.

Thanks CT, did you deal with anyone in particular? Were they able to wrap it without taking it off the car?

Thanks again,

Strike

Only 3 guys work there, Rob the owner and 2 others who are all just as good. Nothing was removed from the car, it was wrapped on the vehicle.

I wrapped the window trim on my S4 and this drove me crazy, crazy enough to up wrap it in a fit of annoyance.

Never knew it was because of the chrome underneath. Thanks for shedding some light on this.

From my experience, it is not necessarily because of the chrome underneath. Different types of brands of black will look slightly different from one another. It is similar to how a color offered from one car manufacturer may differ from another manufacturer, even though both of the cars may be the "same" color.

Satin black for the twin blades and gloss black for the 3 pointed star. Nothing had to be removed from the car.

Will do!! CT I am thinking of organizing an AMG get together at Cars and coffee in Yorktown Heights one Sunday morning. I went last week and AMG was sorely under-represented with only 4 cars out of 200. I had the only w205. Would you be interested in going?
