Why only c63 "S" models

I'm guessing this has been asked before but I didn't see it.

Around my area it's impossible to find just a C63. They are all S models. I have been looking for quite some time and that's all you can find. Since that adds a premium to the price it pushes it out of the range I would like to spend.

What's the story on finding an actual just plain C63?

Wait a few months and buy lightly used S model then. You still get the better car if you are slightly patient. When it comes time to sell, you may find that rare non-S is that much harder to sell too. At the price point these things are going for, very few want to pass up the "S" for a relatively small premium considering how much you are already paying.

To tell you the truth I don't believe there are any non s models in the US except those who ordered. I had to order mine, but on the bright side I got it exactly the way i wanted it, since there were no S models with similar options at the time.

When I was purchasing a car, I knew I wanted to build my own. I went to the dealer and they were able to allocate a build slot for me, but a few weeks later, I got a phone call saying that the slot they had reserved for me was for the S model. Turns out, in the US at least, all dealers receive/build only the S model due to it being a more premium model, and non-S models have to be custom ordered. I was told this would add up to 2 months to my build time, so I went with the S model.

TL;DR: dealers only get S models until the non-S is asked for, and that requires a long lead time before it gets built.

I live in the US and I have a PO on a non S model with a build date of September 5. My PO was off of an existing dealer allocation back in early July. I would have preferred the S but the non S was the only available allocation so I took it.

I believe my order took roughly 2-3 months total. I was scared I would have regrets about not getting the S model, but I have found the power in the non S more than enough. This forum did not make the wait any easier though.

I just traded in my non S model. I forgot which dealership made the bid since the one in Hawaii didn't want it with my Weistec adjustable suspension. It was gone in five minutes.

Any depreciated C63 will be gone in a day unless its an accident car. Car barely on market two years. This is normal for hot cars. Talking from expirience in 2014 I had to pay $10K over MSRP to just get a supercharged V8 Range Rover.

In 2015 I had to settle for a just delivered 2015.5 Autobiography on the lot to replace that one because it was the only one on the East coast! I lacked seat color and Infotainment choice I wanted. I could have waited 6 months to get exact build I wanted, but it would have cost me an extra $10K so I settled. Today if I want the same Autobiography in my exact combo might take a week to a month to locate one or if I order then 3 months wait and in both cases I'd get a small discount. This is 2yrs later mind you. So no this is normal. You want to know how crazy it gets? In December 2014 I had someone approach me and offer me $20K over MSRP to sell the Range Rover to him. Thought about it for a minute then said no sorry. Ofcourse I wish I had, but that's life.

I was set on buying an M4 before I came to MB. I was going to trade in my BMW 335. After 20yrs owning nothing but BMW coupes for daily drivers. I was also not going to buy no 2016 this close to year end. (Mine is a month old now). I wanted only 2017 model coupe and was willing to order and wait. I test drove this bad boy and all those criteria I had went right out the window. I was informed Coupe wont be atleast until late september. I said ok Ill have a sedan then. Oh the 2017s are months away, ok then I will take a 2016, I wanted the Brilliant blue was informed they only came in Silver, White black etc,... I compromised again. I'll take Designo Dianmond white please....
See I got criteria alright, but desire trumps all. That is very high right now. Just look at the terrible leases and these things are flying off the lots.

Went in to look at cars for the wife. Saw a 2014 E63 AMG S and the rest is history. I did like my C63 a lot. It came pretty loaded. But it's rare to see that kind of car where I live. From what the dealership told me the largest MB dealership in the mainland wanted mine. It took less than 10 minutes.

All C63 allocations are S models by default. Unless it is physically changed in the system by the dealer. Only way the dealer is going to change it, is for a customer order. So basically the only way to get a non-S is to do a custom order or get lucky enough to find a build some customer backed out of.

When I went to pick up my car they had 3 S models, 1 non S (which is what I was going to buy) and another non S on the way. That was in Jan though so maybe things have changed. The non S I wanted did not have the perf seats so I made the jump to the S

I find myself in a similar situation. I am lusting after a Shelby GT350 but all the dealerships want a crazy markup on top of the MSRP. I think i will ride out the storm and wait for a bit. eventually, those markups will drop down.
