Is this normal? Dealer in US asking for $15-20K markup over MSRP for c63s coupe

Hey Benzshill, sorry for making assumptions and being skeptical on your post. I looked back at it and realized I was being rude... my apologies!
Anyway, you may want to try some dealerships in SoCal if you're willing to go a bit south. I have an order on a C63 and I spoke with several dealerships from Newport Beach to San Diego during my search. All of them treated me with respect and were very professional. Good luck in your search!

Same crap they try to pull here in Florida. Dealerships mark up so much here that most times it makes sense to order from out of state. I ordered ,my car a few weeks ago at msrp. I wasn't able to secure a discount but I did get an early allocation so not complaining too much. These cars aren't low production so I wouldn't pay a penny more than it's worth. Actually paying msrp itself is a "bad" deal lol. Good luck finding a better dealership

its weird that they would escort you out of the dealership ... Was there an argument or a lively sarcastic debate? I've had salespeople tell me to have a good day but never escorted me out of the building

Not really
After being hassled by several dealers wanting over MSRP and being arrogant I walked into the San Diego Penske store and they were very professional and I offered a number under MSRP and with no hassling me they accepted and my car came in just as promised.
It might have been the sales people you worked with that were not the best.

Was this by any chance Mercedes of Stevens Creek ? One of the worst Mercedes dealerships in Silicon Valley IMHO. I wouldn't be surprised never had a good experience there myself either.

When the new models of the Range Rover (L494 & L405) came out in 2014 you couldn't get for less than $10K over MSRP and in some places like California maybe 20K. I shopped around and couldn't even get the one I wanted. In 2014 I wound up paying $10K over MSRP to get the supercharged. Bad move on my part because in the end 10 months in I traded it for the 2015.5 Autobiography which I also coundn't get anywhere for less than MSRP. I only got a discount because it was same dealership I used again. Now I don't know about the C63.. I suggest you shop around or just wait. In a year they will be giving you $5K off. Its an AMG. Want factor wil have dropped quite a bit.

My friend works at a Canadian MB dealership, and he said that MB doesn't allow the dealerships to offer above MSRP. I guess that's just for Canada....
Either way, yeah MSRP is the most you should ever pay for any AMG other than the SLS gullwing.

Yes, get the quote in writing and report the stealership to MBUSA. Can't believe something like this is still going on nowadays. Gosh, it's just a mass-produced car, not a limited edition collector's car.

Could this be Stevens Creek or Pleasanton? Have had similar experiences at both when I lived there....

Happy to provide details over PM but I don't want to name the dealership in public.
I'm still shopping around but I think this is going to be an issue all around the Bay Area. If anyone has any suggestion on a CA or dealership I can work with please let me know.
And by the way, this was the response I got from MBUSA:
Thank you for your email to Mercedes-Benz USA.
We are sorry to learn of your experience at the dealer. Since Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC is not directly involved with dealership retail sales transactions, we hope you understand why we are not in the position to speculate or comment with specifics concerning the circumstances your letter describes. As each dealership are independently owned and operated, they can determine, at their own discretion, the price of the products and services they sell.
Despite these obvious limitations, we do take your concerns very seriously and appreciate your feedback which has been duly noted and shared.
The opportunity to respond is appreciated.
Kind regards,
Ashley L.

If you have extra time and want to take a cheap flight or road trip Mercedes seattle will treat you right! If all else fails in CA.
Theyll even give you money off and bend over backwards to help you. Best car experience I've had at a dealership by far.

You may be able to order through a dealership from another state and have it shipped for cheaper. figure people can find it for 5% of msrp that is almost 5k. maybe even work out better with taxes.
unless Cali has special rules about bringing in and registering cars. the environmental stuff is crazy in CA

As far as emissions go, I only know of Motorcycles that will prep a car specifically for CA (thus the term 49 state bike), and all cars should be all set for CA emissions.
Even still, depending on what county you're in, you don't have to smog a new car for 5 years from ownership or when selling. In Sacramento county, a smog is required every two years. In my home county, Humboldt, it's only required when there is a change of ownership. Good info to know if you plan on modding that would potentially mess with smog.

SoCal also has more MB dealers than NorCal, thus more competition. You may get a better deal ordering from down there. I ended up buying my CLA45 down in Santa Monica, although I bought my ML and C63S from Stevens Creek, like I PM'd you.

Just to close the loop.
Thanks to everyone who jumped in publicly and privately giving me advice. I went to another Bay Area dealer today and got 3.2% discount from MSRP on a c63s coupe that is scheduled to be produced now in September.
Unlike the previous dealership, they went all and beyond to find me a car I liked. They swapped an allocation with another dealer and met me in a price I'm comfortable with (I told them I was looking for 5% below MSRP).
This is my build:
Selenite grey metallic
Black Nappa leather
Carbon fiber trim
Premium 2 package
AMG performance exhaust
AMG night package
AMG performance seats
19"/20" black cross-spoke forged wheels
Parking assist package
And now we wait!
