I have Distronic system on my C63s sedan, and I really like it for traffic jams or long boring highway trips.
Personally, I find the difference between the 2D star and the 3D star to be not that noticeable unless you really want to nitpick that detail.
Note that before it was rolled into the premium packages, Distronic was it's own $2000-2500 option (can't quite remember how much I paid for it). If you want to replace the star just remember you're losing out quite a bit of added equipment.
There's one thing what you can add when you have the 3D star (no Distronic) and that is the illuminated star. It's on the accessory list (not sure if it's available for C-class), but can be built in afterwards.
