premium 3 w/ 3d star?

premium 3 w/ 3d star?
i was thinking of getting the premium 3 package but I don't like the 2d star. can I get that package without distronic plus and therefore keep the 3d star? or alternatively, can I just swap the 2d star for a 3d star after purchase? Would that break anything besides distronic plus?

i'm getting feedback from the dealership that "it will cause the entire drive pilot system to stop functioning which will cause check engine light and other warnings on the dash"

Interesting. the 3d star is designed to house/protect the DISTRIONIC PLUS radar, so there is nothing to interfere with, if you don't have the driver assistance pack, which if you did, would mean your car would already have the 3d star.

My wife actually mentioned to me yesterday how she thought the 2d star looked very cheap and much preferred the traditional 3d star. I actually agree.

the difference in the star is evident. I'm not sure which you would classify as 2d and which as 3d.

yeah, the difference is clear. i just didn't realize until now that there was a difference in the first place, since mine doesn't have the distronic, and i assumed that all cars have the 3d star.

3d is the one that has a 3-dimensional star, which is the one without distronic. the star with distronic looks 2-dimensional.

My car is specced with Distronic and seems to have a 3D star. Well it had better have Distronic! Photos I took seem to show a 3D star. Hopefully I will know 100% later!

the only issue with it, is that you'll have to clean it every once in a while cuz it might get dusty. must get those fingers inside the star and clean it well

Indeed - mine is the 2D variety I Like it to be honest, but I suppose I would choose the 3D version if I could still have all the toys!

i am considering getting premium 2 instead of 3 because of the star lol. the only thing i care about in premium 3 is the dynamic headlights and perhaps adaptive high beam assist

The 3D star really does look better but I only noticed this because of this thread! The 2D star looks 3D from a distance and without seeing a 3D version nearby seems quite normal

Do people actually use the distronic features? My first MB included it, but it was useless, because anyone that I tried to pace on the highway would be continuously on their gas peddle, then off their gas peddle. The constant acceleration/deceleration drove me nuts.


3D star; no question.

3D star; no question.
I use adaptive cruise on the motorway whenever there are speed cameras around. It isn't a flawless system but it generally works well for me and COULD prevent an accident. I had a very near miss once overtaking on a motorway when the guy in front braked suddenly and for no reason, I was looking in the mirror at the time. Distronic would have braked automatically, I was lucky.
