1800 mile electronic limited slip diff. Fluid chge.
Time for me to get this done. Service dept told me to allow for 4 hours since a driving test is required. REALLY?
Anybody that has had this done know if a drive test was required when you had this done?
Four hours to remove plugs, drain and add new fluid? Also quoted $300 for Fluid and labor. OUCH!
Thanks.

There was no mention of a test drive being required. Although, they will probably do a short one, just to make sure all sounds good.

I rang 3 different dealerships to find out if my 2016 C63S Sedan required this to be done as forum discussions were that some cars required the diff oil to be changed and some didn't.
None of the dealerships knew anything about it and had to go away and come back to advise me my car didn't require the oil change.
On closer inspection of the run in stickers on the windscreen the second smaller sticker stated that the diff oil did in fact need to be changed so I took it in and it was done for free.
I was pretty annoyed that even the Mercedes dealerships didn't know this had to be done and even advised me that it didn't.
Anyway, done while I waited and for free through Corporate Servicing Plan.

Done the same on multiple AMG's in the past; I use my independent tech and the pricing is much lower and time you wait is much less. Obviously if one has bought a pre paid plan its more beneficial to take advantage of that.
The change is literally:
put car on lift
unplug the diff drain plug
drain
replug
fill from the side of the diff
Now this was on my Black Series and a 3 M157 cars so the M177 may differ and I didn't have to do this on my M178 GTS (probably due it being electronic vs mechanical).

I never keep my cars long enough to even use the PPM. It falls under their suggested intervals which Ill never reach so for the initial oil changes (around 3k) and the diff drain I use Benzworks (sponsor here).

Benzworks in HB... they work on all my Benzes and actually my other brands too.

Its a different animal. It is a trans-axle so maybe it is lubed with the trans oil instead of gear lube. I don't know just how it is built. But you would think it would need heavier lube???

Hmmm... maybe. However, knowing Merc's incompetence with the C63's diff, I'd be inclined to push it further (if I had one!).

Solid input from all and much appreciated.
Got it done today. Took 2 hours total at the Dealer. Cost was $215.

I had mine done yesterday at 1,875 miles. I arrived at 7:30am and was out of the dealership by 9:30am.
The service advisor said that even though I had the MB Pre-paid Maintenance plan, this service would not be covered (Because it's not an A or B service), but AS A COURTESY, they took care of it for me at no charge.
I find it strange that MB Pre-paid Maintenance wouldn't cover EVERY service, which is how it was described to me when I purchased it.

Uhh, I just got quoted $90 for the service and 1 hour wait time. I thought maybe they misunderstood what I was wanting and tried to clarify twice (not wanting to push it too much, because if it's $90 that's a steal) and they insisted it was the correct quote for the correct maintenance -- though they said it was due at 2000mi, not 1875mi, whatever.
Guess I'll let you guys know if it's legit. Going to have to clarify in person before the service, too... too good to be true.
