C63s 4th place in Motor Trend H2H (ATS-V, Giulia QF and M3 CP)
So please do not overestimate the coupe over the sedan.
It was even worse: The C63 NON S Sedan was as fast (!!!) as the C63 S Coupe!
"Ein S-Modell der aktuellen AMG-C-Dynastie hatten wir bislang noch nicht im Test, also ist unsere Bemessungsgrundlage ein normaler C 63, einer ohne S, also mit 476 PS, als Limousine, der seit September mit einer respektablen Rundenzeit von 1.12,8 Minuten in der ewigen Tabelle steht (>>> Vergleichstest gegen BMW M3).
Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Coupé braucht 1:12,8 Minuten in Hockenheim"
My Translation: "A S-Model sedan hasn't been tested yet. Therefore a normal C63 is used for comparison, non s with 476 PS, as a sedan, which was tested in September with a lap time of 1.12,8min. The Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe needed 1:12,8min in Hockenheim."
Don't get your panties in a wad over this. Take a look at the C&D comparison of the same cars: http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...omparison-test.
Here the C63s came in second behind the Alfa with some very nice compliments and some criticism.
The M was third and the Caddie last.
Also, I don't yet see a link, but R&T just tested all but the Caddie. R&T noted that the C was slowest on a tight track, much better on a more open track, and by far the best in the real world. The editors agreed if they were spending their own money, all of them would spring for the C63s.
I think these reviews are probably right for their individual areas of focus. If you just want the best track car, the Alfa with its race tires from the factory is clearly the best. Even if the other cars were equipped with track tires, I'm not sure any of them would really lap the 'ring as fast as the Alfa. Of course we have no idea about reliability on the Alfa. It may well be that after 3 or 4 'ring laps the Alfa would require extensive service. We have some experience with the other cars and they seem fairly reliable.
On the other hand, I think R&T is correct. If you mostly want a car that is really fast on the street, reasonably sporty and also very luxurious, the C63s wins hands down.
Before the C63s, I had an M4 and I have never looked back (except to see the M cars fading into the distance as I pull away from them ;-).
Cheers
