C63S - Strange Engine Noise!!!!!
Okay folks,
Weird one... My engine has started making what I'll call a chirping noise.
It's NOT rhythmic insofar as there's any set pattern to it that would lead me to believe it's belts, or valves as they cycle.
It's random in nature.
Every few seconds, 1-4 chirps and then a 5-10 second normal sound, then it starts again.
Has anyone else noticed this?
I brought it to my dealers attention and haven't received a response yet.
It's almost the sound of an oil starved engine, but it only happens at idle!!!!

At first, they said its normal, then they changed their minds and said it is not. Had replaced several times some belts, and one bearing (dont know which) and it didnt help. They contacted factory, got response like this (i saw the sheet) :
We are aware about number of AMG vehicles with this sound. We assume, it is going from valve gear (chains?) Custumer need to know, that this annoying noise doesnt harm engine, nor performance of the car. As the car is fully usable, your service stuff can reassamble car and it can be given to customer. At this time we have no solutions for it, but we will inform you as soon as we find it.
What a ****IN BULL$h1t!!!!
What a stance.... im sure in US, they would have very hard times with such an answer
My car is there for more then 3 weeeks. At this time im in negotiation process with dealer about swaping the car. We ll see how it developes.

It is not. Sad but true. Dont let yourself being refused. There is a number of AMG vehicles that do this noise (statement from factory) , if it would be normal, than every single engine would sound like this..
Im visiting dealer on monday, they allready agreed about swap. Final conditions we will discuss further.

Hey auditoamg / diewithme,
I just came across this forum and had to create an account for this EXACT same reason! My car has been doing the same things as well
I bought my C63s used (~6k miles), and drove it for a while before noticing the sound.
Here is a link:
I also struggled to get my dealership to admit this wasn't a "normal" engine noise, but after taking it back several times they agreed to work on the car.
So far, they have replaced the idler pulleys and belt tensioners with no luck, and they were going to give up, but that day the MB rep that deals with claims happened to be there and as soon as he sat in the car, an error code popped up on the screen. Now they are replacing the camshaft adjusters. My car has been in the shop for 3 weeks!!
I searched "camshaft adjusters C63" and found this class action for the W204 models:
http://topclassactions.com/lawsuit-s...tion-lawsuit-/
Although I'm not sure what ever happened/if the issue could affect newer models...was also discussed on this forum somewhere, I can find the link if you are interested.
Have either of you had any luck? Did they already buy back your car? I will let you guys know if I hear anything back on my car, supposedly will hear something next Thursday.

Sorry to hear it man!
My dealer had several belts replaced, tensioner, some sealing with no succes, so I gave up. I bought semi-exclusive car with one man-hand made engine, not a Lego with hit/miss repair training. There has been more issues with my car, so I refused to pick up my car, negotiated swap and ordered something complete different. (Facelifted S class LOL) . I hope, there will be time for AMG sometimes in future though..

I have a 2018 C63s coupe have 3700 miles on it and I hear that noise as well not as loud as yours but it's there. If they diagnos the problem let me know I'm curious. Want to tune the car in the spring now just something to worry about.

I also hear that noise too but the dealer said its from the lifters and being made with aluminum head covers you may hear all the ticking and mechanical sounds. I got 32K miles on it.

Ya all tripping *****.
This is just Crank Vent system during idle making that noise, there is another dude found ticking noise at the exhaust, same stuff.
When fully warmed in gear, the sound goes away.

I got the same noise on cold start now, I'm looking for it, and suspect the problem on my car is EVAP purge valve solenoid. Still not confirmed yet, I need more test on my car to proof. If I got confirmed, I will let you guys know.
BTW I would like to say, I had 80% confidence it is EVAP purge valve.

update:
DEC 9th: Tested both left and right side EVAP purge valve solenoid while engine off in this cold morning. Found left EVAP purge valve solenoid made significant more noise than right side, and pretty much the same noise as sounds during cold idle. Start engine when RPM drop to idle, noise only maintained about 30 second. Its not enough time for me to unplug EVAP purge valve solenoid wiring to testify.
due to this problem on my car is intermittent and very short time on cold condition(usually come with the first cold start), I need more time and more vehicle to test it.
If someone near Montreal or Toronto and had this issue, PM me, I will come to you and test confirm the problem on your car.

So brought my car in 2 days ago for the chirping sound. Apparently the timing chains tensionor's are bad which is causing the sound, and need to be replaced. I believe there are updated ones for the car. Supposed to get the car back Friday will let you know how I make out.
