Pano Roof. Yes or no?

Hello everyone,

I am finally about to order my C63s Sedan. My last (new) concern is with the pano roof. MY2018 cars will now come standard with sunroof (no delete option) and optional pano. I have found an open dealer allocation for a 2017 C63s and am seriously considering doing a pano roof delete. As many of you know, you lose a considerable amount of headspace when you spec a car with performance seats over the standard sports seats. Also, car will be Selenite grey. (Yes, I know the white with black looks great, so that is out of the equation) So, here a couple questions for everyone.

1. Pano roof owners, have you had any problems with the roof since your purchase?

2. Pano roof + performance seats people. How's the fit? Are you able to wear a helmet in the car if you have been to track? I have a meager 2 inches of clearance without a helmet.

3. What is everyones opinion of the pano? I have had standard sunroofs in every vehicle I've owned, and almost 100% of the time keep it closed with shade shut. I do not like the sun in my face and I live in the southern United States so its usually hot as hell down here.

4. Will not speccing a pano affect resale? (I will be purchasing and not leasing)

5. Any other thoughts? I know the BMW M guys generally hate sunroofs. But, I am not sure about the AMG community?

All opinions welcome!

just took delivery of my new 17 c63s coupe yesterday. and i noticed on the window sticker that on the left column under "standard features" and further under the sub-heading, "comfort/convenience" that the panarama roof is listed; ergo, for 17 it *is* standard equipment already. maybe you can opt to delete it - that i dont know - but otherwise, it wasn't an option per se as it is clearly stated under the "standard features" section. maybe there is a difference between the coupe and sedan in terms of standard features?

There is a difference, pano is standard on US coupes but not sedans. That will change for sedans in MY2018 when a sunroof will be standard with pano optional.

Pano is better for resale but sunroof is better for performance .. pano is heavy

yes many have issues with pano -- what can you do?

Thanks for your response. My real dilemma here is actually going without a sunroof or pano and doing a straight steel top.

More than likely if I order a MY2018 i will go with a standard sunroof no matter what. I have to assume it will not take up as much headroom with a sunroof over the pano. While having neither would offer the most headroom and performance?

i have no pano and I like it. I really don't miss a sunroof/pano. My last car had a sunroof and I think I used it twice, both time my wife was in the car and she opened it. I think the roof looks clean without it but that's a personal preference. Resale didn't matter as much because I'll just trade it in on my next car.

i would just do sunroof... more structural rigidity however I cannot comment on the head clearance

perhaps you'll lower your seat for race day

I have the panoramic glass sunroof on my 2017 coupe and have not closed it since the day I took delivery. The tinting on it is great and cuts out the sun while making it feel much more open in the car. Regarding resale I can say that I would not buy a used car without a sunroof.

Not to shift too far, will the coupe have a sunroof option? That offers more headroom correct?

The crazy thing is the performance seats in their lowest position is 5ish inches at least taller than normal sports seats. I am 6ft tall and in a car with performance seat and pano roof leaves only 2 inches of headroom.

I am 6'1" ... I sat in both performance and sport seats before purchasing... the performance seats had me about 2 inches higher overall, and I went back and fourth on what to do before my build had to be locked in ( car is not here yet, arrives in a few weeks ) .. I came down to the decision I just could not order this car without the performance seats. They really make the car in my mind. I think it will be ok once I get used sitting a little higher then I am used to ( corvette ). I do not have the issue of needing clearance for a helmut as I will not track the car. I would safely say that at being 6'1", I am right on the line of being to tall for the performance seats; anyone over 6'1" should be going with the standard sport seats

My .02, if a hard core track car (meaning lots of racing, not just a handful of times per year) then no pano. If a cruiser, fun car, daily, occasional track car, then pano a must!

Lol, it is the latter. Cruiser, fun car, but track 1-2 times per year. With exactlly 2 inches to spare in headroom. Would a helmet even fit. I do not own a helmet personally so I cannot test. Hence, the struggle is real. Track days may be a no go with pano.

I will normally spec sunroof or pano because my kid loves looking out of it when he is in his baby seat but I didn't opt for a sunroof or pano for the c63s mainly because of looks...no offense to rest of the owners but didn't like the look of the car when the glass is open with a piece of glass above the roof panel. Felt it spoilt the shape.

If it retracts into the body instead of above the roof I would have definitely gotten it.

AMG C63T S - delivery March 2017
In my opinion as a salesman of these cars, you should get the panoramic roof on resell value alone.

The roof on the C class 205 is made of aluminium = alot of tyre noise. Get the glass roof for a more silent car 👍 Another tip is the Aucustic glasses for the side Windows, code 851

Does the panoramic sunshade close all the way in the back?

Mine leaves a small gap between the headliner. Dealer says this is normal.

I'm 6'1 with performance seats and there is limited head room. I don't know if I could get a helmet on without adjusting my posture. If I could I wouldn't get a pano roof. It looks cool but its heavy if you are going to track the car. I rarely use it. I do open it in a tunnel when I want to hear the exhaust pop. (Yes, I'm that guy)

I have the standard sport seats and regular (non-pano) roof on my sedan. I'm 6'2", and I've never had any issues with headroom. I've worn my bicycle helmet many times while driving (moving car around the parking lot before/after a bike ride) with no issues.

At the AMG Driving Academy, I drove a C63S Coupe that had performance seats and pano roof. Even with the seat set as low as possible, I could not sit with my head perfectly straight up. I had to tilt it to the right to prevent it from hitting the edge of the roof where the glass begins. Very, very uncomfortable.
