Yes I too noticed that the exhaust in comfort mode is now quieter

In fact i've noticed that in the lower rev range (below 1.5 - 2k the exhaust is noticeably quieter even with the flaps open and also when braking or using the HOLD function the exhaust note also quietens, even in Sport+ for me at least.

It's annoying because one of the best things for me pre-update was the rumble at standstill and low revs with the exhaust on in any driving mode which whilst still there, just doesn't have the same depth to it as before.

A shame that this had to be the tradeoff for a livelier exhaust and smoother transmission when opening up the revs in Sport+. Hopefully AMG takes note and comes up with a solution.
Sounds like you need the active valve module to open the exhaust valve fully all the time even in comfort

Anyone on here have an Edition 1 Coupe? Mine already downshifts (2 to 1) at 10mph and has the 4 pops upon downshifting from 4K RPM. Dealership states mine never received the update to quiet the exhaust noise, so this new update wasn't required. Wondering if all Edition 1s are in this category? Prod. date of mine is 12/16.

Hi FDNewbie what mode are you in (Sport +, Race) and what gear do you shift down to when you get the 4 pops at 4k RPM

is it because I don't have the dynamic exhaust installed hence I don't have the LOUD button on my console. However I do have Akra exhaust installed and I suspect the Akra valves doesn't open during Revs (only opens when car is moving) that's why I don't get the pops.

Seems like I'm correct, the valves closes upon revving above 1000rpm

I'm a little confused as I'm seeing the instructions on my Akra Controller. Anyone knows how to get the pops and crackles ?

All along when I drive I always thought and felt that "red" means LOUD. According to the instructions, red does mean loud. But red means valves are closed. Isn't closed valves suppose to be softer than opened valves ?

Also, based on the chart, does it mean I should try revving in Sports as that's when both valves are open without the 1000rpm limit ? How do I remove the 1000rpm limit. Not sure why did Akra set a limit

Hi,

If I'm correct, the crackles and pops are part of the Performance Exhaust system, so no crackles and pops without it.

Sport+. I can't say for sure I get 4 pops at 4K decel (2 for sure) but at like 4250 or so, I definitely get a louder series of pops, 3-4. Hard to hear cuz the sound deadening is excellent in the car, and I haven't gotten around to dropping the rear seat to hear better.

I also gotta admit that my baby's barely broken in (just over 2K miles), and I actually followed the break-in procedure to a tee. So I just recently started driving in Sport+ and driving more aggressively, and it sounds like the exhaust is actually getting louder

I'll tell ya that in Sport+, without decelerating, just letting off the gas now often results in a very satisfying loud backfire

Just booked my car in for this coming Friday. My dealer had a lady answer the phone and she didn't t seem bothered that I just asked for the update. She spoke to somebody and happily agreed to do it, apparently only takes an hour!! The question I had in my mind, however is... Does the update change the 'standstill' revving of the car to have more pops and crackles or is it similar/ equal to the pre update noise?

Standstill revving pops and cracks more than pre-update, yes.

So, I finally had the opportunity to get a decent video out in the open with the software update - This gives everyone a good indication of the sound.

PS: I have also had my secondary cats deleted, which for me was one of the best bang for your buck mod on this car till date.

Sounds pretty damn good.

I am having the "transmission software update" being performed. I was wondering if there are two different updates, like the exhaust and transmission are separate? Or are they the same update that covers both?

I was advised they both need to be done hand in hand.

The SA called me back and said the transmission update was done but not the exhaust. She also said that she checked and there wasnt an "exhaust" update. So hopefully its the same thing and maybe they didnt know that it was two updates that go hand in hand.

There is an ECU update and a TCU update. The ECU Is responsible for the exhaust noise changes.

Thanks for the heads up. I just got my car back and they only did the transmission update and not the exhaust update.

SA told me that they needed a reason to perform the update. So i said what everyone else has been saying; "the car is too quiet." She said, "Really? I kind of beg to differ." Because my car has downpipes and its loud already, i just want the extra snap, crackle, and pop. Lol

What else can i say? Should i put the car in comfort mode and rev the exhaust for them?

Have you had a tune after the down pipes?

This weekend I will be installing my catless downpipes and armytrix valved exhaust and will post how the car sounds with the updated exhaust vs their existing videos where the car does not have the update on it from what I can tell. also from what was stated above the term "valves open" does usually correspond with loud mode not sure why they state it like that.

OMG! I just had the above done to my car and it's like a totally different car. Just as everyone stated, while in park and S+ mode, rev the engine past 3500 rpms and hear the louder and crackling exhaust when the rpm drops. I didn't have this before hand. It DOES NOT work in Comfort mode. Just as a data point, I have a 1st Edition car 6/2015 production date.

I was finally able to get the exhaust software update, thanks to this thread. The SA did not know wth i was talking about, and neither did the shop foreman. They were non compliant until i showed the shop foreman this thread. Then he obliged. Although, at first they were trying to charge me $180 for the software update because "I didnt have a reason/cause for the update to be performed."

He also warned me if the car was tuned, it would wipe it out, completely.

Besides that, the car sounds better and more aggressive. Like what everyone else reported, alot more backfire is present in S+ and Race.

Just wanted to give a thanks to this forum for assisting me with service.

The talk track should be "My car his jerky during drive off in S+ mode and the exhaust seems to have gotten quiet since my last service. Here is the XENTRY bulletin that I found which should help with this issue." Print out and provide the XENTRY document.

Also, it would help if you had another issue for them to diagnose. For me, the AC settings acted like an on/off switch. You cannot tell a difference between 66F and 76F-ish in air temp until you hit 80F where it then turns on the hot air. Nothing was seen abnormal. But there was a software update done. Also, they suggested turning off the AC button to get heat.

Has your car had any previous updates done?

I just checked my records. It looks like there were no software updates performed on my car since delivery. This tells me that the "soft exhaust" was programmed in prior to me receiving the car. June 2015 production date.

Spot on. The Xentry bulletin is what the shop foreman looked at and approved.
