Just thought i would give you guys an update on what has happened here. The car was never recovered and thankfully the insurance company did pay out. Very disappointed with the tracker that was sold by Mercedes (tracker locate) as it seem to be very easily compromised. After researching on that particular type of tracker I found our that it was actually a very very poor version of the tracker that i could have got.

Onto the next car now, i have ordered alfa romeo giulia quadrifoglio, after the edition 1 the normal c63s didn't feel as special.

I would say that there have been ALOT of Mercedes being stolen in the area i live in and also on the news, using the same key less method. Both C classes and E Classes. most ppl aren't aware of the double locking method.

With our other car we now have the autowatch ghost installed which is an impressive peace of kit.

Glad you got that resolved and you are happy.
What is this "double locking" method you speak of?

This is where you press the lock button twice on the remote and it disables the keyless function on the key. So to open the car you have to press the unlock button on the remote. Alot of Mercedes drivers i have spoken to were not aware of these feature on their cars. And hence what is the most common cause of key less car theft of Mercedes cars when they haven't been double locked.

Wait... then that means you're going backwards and don't want keyless go at all. Or am I not getting something here?

This means every time you have to put in the button (why not just put in a normal key). And then you have to take it out every time you go somewhere or home, which is ALL the time lol.
If that is the case, I would just do what you said and leave it at that (so it's just like you have no keyless go) and keep the button somewhere safe in your house.

Keyless go still works with this method as in you don't need the physically use the key to start the car. But you will need to press the buttons on the key to unlock it.

Glad you are satisfied with what the insurance company is paying you.

And btw, ever since this thread, I use the double click method all the time.

Tested the double tap of the lock button on the remote over the lunch hour...worked as expected. Worth noting that it must be a quick double click, not just pressing the lock button again. The quick double chirp of the horn confirms deactivation of handle sensors.

Double click is good and I still like the keyless start... Especially to start my car in I or S+ mode.

Are you able to start right off in S, S+, or I? If so how? I keep having to go from C to S, S+, I every time I start my car.

BTW great thread everyone!

That works but you do not have to do that .
After programming your I mode all you need to do is get in and put foot on brake and hit the start button and quickly move your finger to the mode lever and push once forward and the car will start in settings you set in I mode including the performance exhaust in LOUD.

Hey Tekforce I am kind of confused on what you are saying about the button. As far as I know the buttons have no vin coding or programming and should be able to be used with any button. So I don't think removing it will be much of a deterrence unless the thief doesn't have one. Maybe you can explain that better to me if I am incorrect.

I don't know the policies where you live, but DAS4 (your car) keys are now blank and are programmed at the dealership with the other key and vehicle present. In the event the car is missing all of it's keys the car needs to be checked into service and a special request is sent to get another key. All these items require ID/Registration documentation on file for 10 years. Key ordering is closely monitored and audited. Even in the US with DAS3 keys which are programmed from the factory have the same policy car must be towed in to get another key. MBUSA does not state why this is their policy, but theft deterrence is what I am guessing. I am very interested in what really happened and I don't think it's a coincidence the car has keyless go. They must be using that technology to steal the car. Maybe you could hire a private investigator to look into it. Maybe with all the other thefts other owners may chime in and find something you guys have in common. I am sure it would be worth it to get these guys off the street. Good luck and sorry for your loss

Reviving an old thread due to the significant increase in vehicle theft, I had an autowatch ghost installed on Friday. It seems to work seemlessly and i'm yet to defeat it without the code (I usually forget to put the code in).
The chap, Richard @soundsalarming_uk did a great job and is based in Wallington if anyone else decides to have it be installed in the south east of hte UK. Some earlier videos of certain people defeating the device by trying to start 3 or 4 times. It looks like that was partly due to installation issues and also since then the product has been tweaked and units already installed up to that point were to be replaced with newer units too. Richard in particular had indepth knowledge of the product and the guy who runs autowatch. He recommended probably skipping the use of bluetooth from a smartphone to unlock the vehicle (ios only at the moment, android in testing) as the blutooth signal can have quite a long range eg 15 metres for example.
Slept like a baby since friday night. The vehicle can still be towed, but until they find and remove the unit, there is simply no starting it. It doesnt emit a signal either and is undetectable using equipment. Lastly, your code is your code, you can change this as often as you like and you have a recovery key too.

Probably i would suggest the following :

a. using double locking on both your key fobs (ie push lock button twice to switch off fob signal). Whether or not you have the autowatch installed, you probably dont want your key fob signal intercepted because they can then turn off the towing prevention measure.I'm sure they can disable all signals from the car anyhow but just in case)
b. take out keyless entry button (one added step can hopefully buy you time, though they could come breaking into your house and getting your key from you at gunpoint )
c. use autowatch ghost and do not use the blutooth smartphone pairing.

If you're worried about people breaking in to your house then dont follow steps a and b and simply rely on the autowatch. By the time they clone your signal and get in the vehicle, they'll be foiled at the last step. hopefully by then you'd have already called the cops and they will then have a smaller window of opportunity (if only a minute or so less when dealing with the most advanced crooks).

It doesnt reduce my insurance premiums as it isnt thatcham approved.

I would also add, that my owners manual says not to be in the vicinity of your vehicle when disabling the Keyless GO functionality on your fob. Hit the lock button twice and you will see two brief flashes of red from the FOB, then a longer flash after confirming its disabled. This is on 2018 models, not sure if it's consistent on all models and years.
