Spare ECU for tune
I have been looking into purchasing a 2nd ECU in order to not worry about my warranty with a tune. Has anyone on here done this and what is the cost for a new ecu. TIA

For some people, that can be a real pain in the a**.
i.e. shipping the ECU overseas... Lots of down time, etc.
Having an extra ECU, if reasonably priced... Which is yet to be determined if it's even possible yet, would certainly be a convenient solution for those who want to avoid any warranty issues that an aftermarket tune can present.

It is possible, but there is a problem with that. You have to get the ECU from the dealer and the have to program the keys to the car before anyone can touch it. That being said, a dealer would thoroughly question why you are purchasing a new ECU for your brand new vehicle lol. It is easier to just program the stock one. I do believe for the 63/63s the ECU can be relocated making future programming much more simple than the initial removal

Btw, does anyone know the cost of a replacement ECU?

lol, if the dealer is gonna question why you're looking to purchase a new ECU for your new vehicle... Doesn't it stand to reason that they'd be just as suspicious, if not more suspicious, as to why you relocated the ECU?

But, they will have to prove that tune alone caused failure in USA.

Can you share where you got this info from? What module(s) other than the ECU is logging engine parameters?

Here's an ECU for sale if you want a spare: http://m.ebay.com/itm/132176373236
As a C63 (non S) owner I'm curious as to whether the C63S ECU would be plug and play and give the extra HP and torque? Does the ECU also control whether Race mode is displayed or is that controlled by something different.
