Ecu removal

has anyone confirmed first hand (you actually did the work), that the below method of ecu removal works?

http://weistec.com/media/productfile/file/w/e/weistec_w205_m177_ecu_removal_manual.pdf

i sent these instructions to a shop, and they seemed to have doubts that this method would work. And it seems most shops charge for 3-5 hours of labor.

Although, when reading the above instructions, it seems so straightforward that I couldn't imagine it taking more than 1-2 hours to do myself.

Any insight? Thanks

I am pretty sure this is the method that my shop used and its tight and you may have to bleed the coolant system after.

Why did they have to bleed the coolant?

The instructions just state to unclip the lines the lines from the ecu bracket. I would assume just to move them out of the way.

im hoping to hear from someone who has done it first hand.

I am not sure if unclip is the right word as i beleive to actually get in there and "unhook" them. but again i am just going from what I was told

I have not heard of anyone as long as i have been on these forums doing it themselves but good luck on your search

Not rely if i just started to remove bolts as i could see them its hard to explain,
hardest part was the bracket which holds the 2 wiring plugs

Attempting this myself now and the instructions giving by Eurocharger seem odd. The first bolt removal steps seem weird, not sure if I can see them from the top or the bottom.

i'm thinking about taking the t30 bolts off the bottom first since those i can see. Surely confusion, surprised there hasn't been a video, i'd love to do it but i'm not that good at first time removals.

Well its almost out. This one is a pain in the *** and its not even out. The discription of removal is vague at best.

I haven't removed any coolant lines though I should have it seems since there may not be any easy way to remove these ecu since they'veseem to be in the way and fought me the whole time in this process. There are two gold brakets that are at attached to the ecu that have rubber mounting for shock proofing and get in the way of removing the ecu. I have one off but the top one has 3 bolts that you can only see 2 which are now removed, simply just change get to the last one. Mine you i'm using my lift while lifting the car up and down to get the ecu in position. Still no luck. Hopefully i don't have to remove the coolant lines.

Whats crazy is there isn't much on this process as if no ones really willing to do this job at home lol. I've called Eurocharger and spoke with a tech whom hasn't done one (my luck). Just wanted some tips. Anyway seems as though not many on here have attempted this on their own. Will report back..

Looked this up toady in WIS, you are supposed to remove the fan, then slide it out the front.

Nope not needed. Just got it out, took about 4 1/2 hours total but could do it quicker next time was really concerned about braking something so i took my time.

Though i did remove (not sure if its intercooler or radiator hose) off in order for the ecu to come out smoothly. I may have been able to get past it but I was so tight. Only a quart or so came out, not sure which resovor to refill though LOL left one or the one in the center of the motor.

Moving forward I sure as hell do not plan to put it back to the stock position, I'll love to relocate it but yet again there isn't any thread or information regarding doing this. The guy i spoke with at Eurocharge mentioned moving it by the inter fending, just don't see how there is any slack from the cables to do so. I'm post picks of the ecu with and with out brackets for anyone willing to try themselves hopefully it helps them.

Warranty time is 2 hours, assuming you're removing the fan, but yeah if you've done it before and know how to slide it out without moving the fan I can see doing it in under an hour.

Your touching on the subject i'm trying to get at, the standard suggested removal may not be as time effective as say what your dealer did by removing the fan. That does seem like a good idea since it would gain a lot more access. Again i haven't done this but it does make sense.
