Black Front Grill

Yes, but you are also replacing an expensive german part with a cheap china part

I betting that the fitment wont be perfect either. Never understood buying an $90-$100K car and taking the cheap route to customize it. Also, link no longer works.

not saying this applies to the original poster.

But often people buy cars they can't afford. They can pay for it (month to month) but can't afford it (doesn't align with their income).

So when it comes time to buy $1000 piece of carbon fiber, or a $3000 exhaust. Etc. these mods can literally be 3-4 payments for the car itself.

Id imagine that's why people spend $90k on a car, but then go the cheap route. Again not saying this applies to the poster.

Not a money thing I can easily afford to buy a OEM piece and get it painted, this was just to see if it would be a easy swap so Im not without my car for a day or 2 while grill gets painted and drys

If a part is cheap and it is built close to OEM quality it does make sense going that route. I know from personal experience that Chinese knockoffs aren't that good and it becomes a hassle instead of just going the OEM route to begin with.

Lots of car parts are made in China and mercedes is one of a thousand producers that uses them. Plus lots of Bosch parts are cloned . I know i have had them ..Power steering filters made in Spain in a merc box .

It is a non operational part. Why not go cheap in it is the quality is there? I'm not wasting 1k+ to put non functional items on my car when I can get them for cheap and they have good quality. Whether I can afford it or not.

I just got a carbon fiber spoiler for my 2017 c63s for $200 delivered from china(ebay). The OEM was $1900. I am more then happy with the $200 spoiler. The fitamint was perfect and I compared it to an OEM and could not tell the difference. I just ordered replacement mirrors in carbon from the same place for $220 and they even come with OEM LCD in them. OEM mirrors were over $2000.

Make sure you put some type of sealant on it to protect it from UV rays. The sun will damage the epoxy/gel coating and turn it yellow. You have to remember that money was saved to create it, which is usually in the materials used and that includes the clear coat.

I bought a Chinese black grille for my SL65 off ebay. The quality was very, very good.

Sold the car and forgot to include the original grill. Anyone need one

I've looked, but can't find one for the convertible, just the sedan.

For nonfunctional parts, I don't have a problem with buying Chinese knockoffs. Quality varies; I've picked up stuff that's literally an exact clone, and other stuff is just junk. I put running boards that look exactly like the OEM ones on my ML, but paid a fifth of the cost. I've got a CF spoiler on my C63S that's a knockoff of the Brabus one, and when I got the first one, it was warped. The seller subsequently sent me another one that was perfectly fine.

YMMV, but it's not just the folks that live on $$$ edge that would opt for this stuff. It's a value perspective; I'd rather spend the savings on actual go-fast stuff.
