Laser/Radar Detectors

This is like the marijuana laws..
Not Federally illegal anywhere but, each state makes its own rules.
According to the chart, 10 states or 11 make laser jammers illegal.
This is why ALP is sold as a parking aid. Basically it lets you know how close you are to
other cars in front and back by "beeping". Oh, BTW..it can also be programmed to jam laser.

For those of you looking for a radar detector, Uniden's R1/R3 that have come out in the past 6 months or so are your answer. Testing done by individuals in many radar detector forums show this two Uniden models to be amazing. It has beaten the previous long-range king aka Escort Redline and obviously Stinger VIP as well. It has pretty much blown away every other radar detectors currently on the market. Moreover, it's also cheaper than other ones...wonder how they did it. Uniden has responded quickly to user's feedbacks and fixed multiple bugs with multiple firmware updates that are easily uploaded via their website. Definitely check out these new Uniden R1/R3 units. BTW, the only difference between the two units is the presence of GPS.

Jump on the my soap box. had one in my 2009 C300 this time around and after sitting in LA traffic and driving through unseen pot holes. for some reason it just doesn't pay to have a radar.Who is doing 100 down the freeway these days. well I know 2 people ...lol
Come on you know its more about the beeps and cool factor to have one.
Just my 2 cents, ditch the toys and focus more on he fact y'all some lucky SOBs to be pushing a C63 or C63s.
You Pay to Play .... pass the man doing 100 , time to pay the piper.
Did I mention I love this forum

A new trick I've been doing is that as soon as I speed past a cop I failed to see on time, I start pulling over right away for them.
This morning on the 101N, I was rushing to the airport at xxx mph in the carpool lane and I suddenly notice a CHP stuck in the right lane in stop and go traffic... We noticed each other at the same time.
I had to slow down. I thought about hitting the brakes but that would've been too obvious so I decided to just let the car slow down by itself.
Unsurprisingly, I saw him in my rear mirror actively switching lanes and crossing the double yellow to come after me. I immediately put my blinkers on, roll my driver's side window all the way down and gave him a quick acknowledgment thumbs up and start moving over to the right before he even turns his lights on... He followed me all the way to the far right lane then zoomed past me after a quick glance inside the car.
It seems that pulling over before they turn on their lights somewhat ruins their satisfaction of pulling me over. Or maybe it's the fact that they see I'm aware of my surroundings and willing to pull over quickly for them... either way, I'm grateful that I got away with it.
It's the 2nd time in the past week that I was able to get away from a ticket using this method. It doesn't mean much but I still wanted to share it.
Doing 100-110mph in my car feels like it's 70mph :/

This has to be one of the dumbest things I've read in a while.
I guarantee you it has nothing to do with the fact you pulled to the right and "ruined his satisfaction."
He's sitting in traffic, and he has absolutely no way of reading your speed with his radar (Ka, Lidar, etc.) given where he was located and with all the other cars around him. He weaved in and out of traffic not to pull you over but to get where he had a clean shot to get your speed. By the time he had a clear shot, you had already slowed down.
If he was able to initially get a clear reading of your speed, he absolutely 100% would pull you over regardless of if you slowed down after the fact.

So while we're on the topic, I have my V1 hardwired and use the visor mount to hold it on the visor on the passenger size (I like it high up, and am not a fan of glass suction cups). The prob is, the visor isn't a soft leather, so the detector shifts/moves and can even fall off if you flip the visor. And I'm not aware of any radar mounts that work with MB rearview mirrors (eg my other cars I have Blendmounts). Anyone else have a nice V-1 mount?
Also, I hope you guys are using the Waze app; it's saved me DOZENS more times than my radar detector ever has...

I'm not saying Waze replaces a radar detector, but most of the time, by the time my V1 goes off, its too late, cuz the cops are often sitting with their gun OFF, and when they visualize a speeding vehicle, they turn it on and nab ya.
The few cases where someone's sitting with their gun on the entire time, getting speeds of everything that moves...the V1 picks them up like 2 miles before I can even see them. But again, that's definitely the minority of the cases, not the majority.
And then there are times where they give me a speed by radar, by my V1 NEVER went off, and it's been working just fine, making me wonder if the cop completely made up the radar reading??

Maybe I'm just lazy, but I have my V1 redneck engineered in it's set up in my car.
I have it mounted using the suction cup bracket up high and to the left of the mirror, and I have a long power cord (bought on eBay) run across the top of the windshield, above the driver's door, down the rear part of the B-pillar all the way to the floor, under the left rear floor mat, and plugged into the rear auxiliary power under the rear A/C vents. Outside of the part near the floor mat, the entire cord is tucked away and hidden from view.
I have two child seats in my back seat, so I don't worry about anyone seeing it.

I just picked up a new '17 AMG C63 Cabriolet a couple of days ago, and I'm wanting to use my Valentine 1. I haven't opted for the direct wire yet, and like you, I don't like those windshield mounts. And I don't like the ones for the visors, because they leave impressions from the mounting clip. As to Waze, I've been using that for a few years. I've had one instance where I receive a Waze "Police reported ahead" report before my radar detector picked anything up. So it does help. But even with a very good radar detector and Waze, you're still vulnerable to LIDAR. A jammer is an attractive option but the price isn't.
As for the visor leaving an impression from the mounting clip, you're right, it would, if it was soft leather. But the harder plastic-like material the rearview is made of pretty much makes that a non-issue.
I've been seriously considering doing my headliner in Alcantara/Dinamica; maybe if I do, I'll redo the visors as well, and no longer have the detector slipping and moving around...

Late to post but I am in the bay area
my Escort max2 is a life saver! And it has auto learn for common false readings. the CHP USE ka in the cruisers and the bike BUT a few bikes and cruiser donhave laser/lidar which is where Waze comes in to help for sure.
however 90% of the time my max2 saves me both from stationary and more importantly cruisers driving through daily traffic with radar on.
on down is there are one or two models that will set K off (blind spot monitor) but that is rare and happens ines a month or so.but 100% of the time when Ka goes it's CHP or city cop siting or cruising

I do. I almost NEVER see cops that haven't already been reported on Waze...even ones hiding, unless it's off hours, and traffic is scarce.
If there's ONE thing I wish I could do, its throw up Waze on the COMAND screen...

ALP is the best out there right now for laser.
Cops also monitor Waze themselves to see if their locations have been reported. So it's necessary to run Waze and other systems simultaneously.

Where is everyone mounting the HiFi speaker and the control module? Our dash doesn't really have a cubby hole that would be suitable for the module, and I don't want that cheap looking thing sitting on the carbon fiber trim.
Plus, the LED is kind of distracting (and pretty bait if a cop hits you with laser and it instantly looks like a rave started inside your car).
