Not for this car but I have used them before. IMO, they come in at or just a bit lower than a trade in to the dealer. I received $700 more on a dealer trade in than they offered for my E92 M3. But you're right -- if a private sell doesn't work, CarMax is my next option.

If you car is in demand in your area but not the rest of the country, CarMax won't offer you as much as you expect. If your market is flooded with your car but other places around the country need that vehicle, CarMax usually offers quite a bit above others.
Again, this is just my experience. Yours may vary.
