Cold start noise

What makes the exhaust super noisy on cold start up and then go quiet after a short while, it seems to be temperature related, the colder the day the longer it takes.

The ECU does it. It's emissions related. It's meant to warm up the catalytic converters as quickly as possible.

Fordgt40 (and midareff1) doesn't like the loud exhaust, so I don't think he's interested in the Active Sound Module.

With the sound module, you can actually make the car quieter on cold starts, if you so wish.

I certainly do like a loud exhaust, the noisier the better, hence me choosing the PE on my latest one,I’m just a bit dissatisfied with the noise it makes, not sure whether to bother with the ASM or not, I’m not sure how long I’ll keep the car.

Why does Mercedes fit these valves, leave them off and I’m sure we’d all be happy.

I believe that compared to older C63s, mustangs and ford gt's I don't think the C63S exhaust is as loud. My personal experience is that I came from V6's/Flat 6s so from my perspective the C63 exhaust note is much louder than what I'm used to. I like having the ability to make it quieter also because I use it as a daily driver. I wish I had a ford gt!

That’s a fair comment, not everybody likes noise, must be me, sound is all important, I was at the Historic Grand Prix in Monaco a few years ago and the sound of the F1 Ferraris actually made me weep, wonderful stuff, a friend of mine has a new Mustang, again it’s pretty quiet, I ran my GT40 on open pipes for a while, now that was a noise.
