Next Mercedes-AMG C63 To Get Hybrid Powertrain, AMG Boss Confirms
https://auto.ndtv.com/news/next-merc...nfirms-1832250What do you guys think? I'm not sure I'd be interested in aV6 or Inline 6 C63, even if coupled with a hybrid motor, and even if the performance statistics were as good or better than produced by the V8 bi-turbo.
Unfortunately, for better or worse, I'm afraid this is the direction that the new government fuel economy mandates will have on almost all performance cars.

The only reason I ever even considered the C63S in the first place was because of the V8. If my next car has 6 cylinders, I can guarantee you it won't be an AMG... it'll be a 911.

Nothing in the article says it's going to lose a V8, just that it'll go hybrid. Plenty of potential for a smaller displacement V8 engine+electric motor hybrid, even foregoing the turbos.
High RPM small displacement V8 coupled with the low-end instant torque electric motor? I won't complain.

"At the New York International Auto Show, Mercedes-AMG Head Tobias Moers confirmed the company is looking at hybrid powertrain for the recently updated AMG C63 as it will lose the bi-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine that is capable of producing max power of 500 bhp and peak torque of 698 Nm. Expected to arrive sometime in the next decade, the AMG C63 will lose its loud noise due to the stringent emissions requirements that have to be adhered by all the manufacturers."
I guess it could be a hybrid v8? doubt it though. i agree with the others, should it not be a v8, i'd pass on it too.

And it's entirely possible. One just needs to look at the new Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. 4.0L V8, twin turbo hybrid. 680hp. Can eat our C63S alive. Yes please.

I think AMG knows their customers well enough to know that ditching the V8 in the C63 would infuriate their loyal customer base and would eliminate that major differentiating factor between competitors in this segment... the ONLY one with a V8 and that emotional sound!
Sounds like the W204 and W205 may become very highly desirable rarities quite soon...

Yea the only reason I'm considering the C63 is because of the V8. If that's gone I wouldn't even look in AMG's direction.
Back to BMW or I would consider a Porsche.

My guess is they will make a more potent version of the actual 53 engine and use that motor variant for the new c63.
In other words a more powerful version of this -and I quote-: 'turbocharged, 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine that produces 429 horsepower and 384 lb.-ft. of torque, and then the added boost of an electrical system that includes an “EQ Boost” '

Like I said, nothing in the article said it wouldn't be a V8, only that it'd lose the current M17x in favor of hybrid power. Given AMG has been keen on making sure they address the enthusiasts they sell to by staying with the V8, it would behoove them to do the same with the next gen drivetrain. Even a smaller displacement V8 makes better music than a 6. They don't want to go down BMW's route with the current-gen M3/4 and the fake sounds.
