AMG Driving Academy Experience?

Got my invite in the mail this AM. This month is a bit too booked up but May 2019 would be a perfect fit anywhere in the month. Anyone been and can fill in some background as the phone is call back Monday and the web site is down for updates. I've done some speed trials and a few years of autoX but no real track time so far. Can those that have been clue me in? Track suit? Helmet? they have? hotel? hotel to track? We live in Miami so we would probably fly and rent a car there.

They have everything. Bring long pants. Unbeatable experience!

Been 5 times, 3 regular and 2 pro, but all 2008 and before. Likely going again soon, I hope, since I think I get a free one with the new AMG I have on order. I enjoyed the regular version more. I also did the Russel Racing High Performance class in my own car, and it was about 50% similar content.

Agreed, long pants. Add, reasonable shoes. Also, a shirt that can breath. The first time you go, by 11am, you may find yourself soaked in sweat and so exhausted that you have to brace yourself to keep from falling down when you get out of the car. It can be that intense, and give you an appreciation for how insane a 24 hour race must be.

Do the long pants have to be any special material? like cotton? warm up suit pants OK? and do they have an area for an interested but not participating wife to hang out in the shade?

The GTR makes this event incredible.

And yes yes you will get exhausted from all of the Gs you will pull. My advice go to COTA for the long straights and dont go in summer.

First off, incredible experience! I went to Laguna Seca last year and am signed up for COTA next month.

You might want to check out the FAQ section of the AMG Driving Academy website HERE. They answer a lot of your questions.

I'll put a couple in here for you:

May I bring a guest or my child to watch the event?
  • We strongly encourage you to not bring a non-driving guest. The reason is there is very little to occupy them while you are on the track. However, it is possible to register one non-driving guest per paid registration. They must be 21 years of age or older (proof of age is required at time of registration) and sign a waiver upon arrival.
  • Please note that the guest will not be able to ride in a vehicle with you. The cost for a guest at PERFORMANCE/DRIFT is $250, ADVANCED/PRO is $500 and PRO+ is $750. The cost for the ADVANCED and PROguest includes attendance at the evening function.
What type of attire is appropriate for this event?
  • Dress in cool, comfortable clothing with long pants/khakis or jeans; shorts are not permitted.
  • Footwear should be flat, thin-soled shoes such as driving shoes or sneakers; sandals, open-toe shoes, or extreme high heels are not permitted.
  • It’s a good idea to bring a hat or ballcap as well as a windbreaker or fleece jacket to anticipate any weather changes during the day.

If I remember you have to book it so it falls within 1 year of purchase. When did you buy?

Yes, see the FAQ (and rest of the AMG Driving Academy's website) for the answers to all your questions.

As for the "within 1 year of purchase," if you have a good reason for the delay, try emailing them. My experience has been that they're reasonable people to deal with

I just came back from the Advanced course at Laguna Seca in April, and am registered for Pro+ again at Laguna Seca in October. They run a VERY efficient course. The amount of things going on simultaneously is simply impressive.
