Found a mystery bolt. Need help locating where it goes.

Hey guys. I was moving my car in the garage the other day and as I backed up, I noticed this bolt under the vehicle. Pretty sure it was on the driver side. I'm trying to figure out where it's supposed to go. Its marked NF 8.8 on the top and is a 10mm. Let me know what you guys are thinking. I looked all around the control arms, down the exhaust and up into the engine bay but still can't locate where it's meant to go.

Did you recently have any work done? It is possible the tech “lost” it and replaced it with a new one, only for it to vibrate out in your garage.

If you don’t have the ability to crawl under the car and inspect, I would take it to the dealer. It looks like one of the female torx or E torx used on the brakes, but I am sure that style fastener is all over these cars.

Better to be safe than sorry, get under the car and inspect it closely or have someone do it for you.

Thanks oj. Ya. The previous owner had the car straight pipes and some other things done to it. Noticed a couple things here and there that were out of place unfortunately, but I was able to correct. I looked under the car. Took all the plastic covers off so I could get a good look down the exhaust and into the suspension/ brake area. Noticed a lot of black dirt/ grime on any of these boots by the brakes, so I'm thinking it's not close to there. Going to the dealership this afternoon to ask.

That bolt looks like the bolts that secure down the heat shield. The same bolt may be used in other places but I am pretty sure of it!

If your car doesn't have a rattle now, that might have been the source of it...
